I guess they don't like snow anymore, because they skipped day 2 through day 8 for me-all good snow photos--I'm beginning to wonder--should I be depressed???? I'm now trying indoor shots and using my macro lens instead of the outdoor telephoto.

I didn't know if I should post this or not, but received this email re: Joanie Bertucci. I know she posts on here often. Maybe we could all send prayers and good wishes her way.
Message:Hi Dianne,
I was checking Joans PC for emails and messages at BP. Joan had a very nasty infection about 2 weeks ago with fever. This allowed her defense mechanisms to low and the bacteria went septic. She has been in ICU for almost a week. We did get her to ER very quickly. The only answers I can get from staff is she is better today. Her recovery will be very slow. That is the beast in what she has ( SEPSIS ) The bacteria in the blood attacks organs. Yeah, it is serious for sure but her bloodwork does show improvement each day. From: Jim Bertucci

EPs don't seem so important right now. Like everyone else, I consider Joannie one of my best BP friends. My prayers go out for her, Jim,and her whole family along with all the friends she has. It sounds as though she is on the mend a little. That's the best part of the news. Get well, Joannie - you make BP a better place.

I let Jim Bertucci know of the posting on BP for Joannie. Here is his Update on how she is doing;
Joannies progress is very slow but her kidneys are making progress. Her lungs are almost clear, and her heart is ok for now. Cardio will not test her until she is at least out of ICU. She really like BP so the posting you did will be a great surprise.

I continue to receive updates from Jim Bertucci through Dianne. I've been posting the info on my FB Wall and on the BP Page wall, also on FB. I didn't want to hijack this thread anymore, but cannot figure out where to start a new Q&A thread at BP so everyone who knows Joannie will see it. Any suggestions. I wouldn't mind sending BP Messages to anyone who wants the info. Just keep praying for our friend, eh?

A wonderful update from Jim Bertucci To all our friends
A quick update for each of you. Joannie made remarkable progress today. If anyone ever doubted that our Lord's love is unconditional, today's news may help you. After a small heart attack with the onset of her Sepsis and the a possible stroke event with one very high blood pressure spike, her CT Scan was normal. They removed all tubes from her with the exception of a feeding tube in her nose and the small nasal oxygen most patients get. She is for all practical purposes on her own body functions.
Not to say the road is not long still for recovery, but she is here. I spent many hours there today and talked to Joannie every minute. She is able to node her head yes or no. If progress is good this weekend, they may move her to a floor. I fully expect more dialysis, but YOU NEVER KNOW. that is a day to day ckeck. When she goes to a floor they will begin working on her strength and mobility.
After a time, if she is just not strong enough to come home, she will go to a rehab center. Again, too early to tell.
I do apologize for missing anyone again, but hope this email makes you smile also.

March 26 – Red Bridge Latest Joannie-News: Last week and this... Part I from Jim (last Sunday).. Joannie is moving to a rehab center tomorrow. They put in a semi-permanent feeding tube in her stomach, as that is good for rehab and it gets the one out of her nose, which was wrecking havoc on her sinuses. They also started plain water in her new tube to start washing her system
out. Sepsis seems to just halt everything in the body that gets blood. And if not treated quickly damages can really set in. Her kidneys are starting to function, her lungs have just traces of Pneumonia, but that is OK they said. The rehabs job now is to work her muscles back into alignment and restore strength. This is all muscles even ones for swallowing. She will spend weeks in rehab but her prognosis is positive. More when I get her in rehab center. Part II (this past Sunday)...
Joan doing much better. Probably 30% more alert, talking even more. Really eager to get physical therapy going [it is a blessing to see those big blue eyes again.]

Can you resubmit an image that has a monthly finalist award in the contest as an entry for another month?

Yes, you can---You can re-enter any image in your Member Center---even past winners.
If you don't make it to Finalist on the re-entry, the good news is you will still see your "first" Finalist badge on the image... they don't take away the Finalist from the first time...
If you win gold on the resubmit, the image will then show the gold medal.

Hi Christopher, I entered five second place images in the March contest and I had them removed from the contest to protect them. I had a member write and tell me about this because I had a second place as a favorite in my favorite image thread in the March contest. If you have a gold and it get a finalist award and does not go forward to get a first or second you lose the gold award and it remains a finalist. If you do a finalist award your fine it can go forward. Your taking a risk doing it with a gold award image. This is just for your information.

Just reload them from scratch, don't use the photo number. That way, your old one is still there and your new one will be just like it was never uploaded.

While I've seen folks resubmit a Finalist, and the resubmit made 2nd Place later on, I've not heard of anyone resubmitting a 2nd Place winner (and the resubmit moves on to 1st or Grand.)
That doesn't mean it can't happen... but I personally tend to think if you get a 2nd or 1st Place, that image is as high up as it is likely to ever go, in BP's contest.

Christopher I just messed up resubmitting the five second place winner's. I only have six second place's and I am sure I would have lost some of them. I was lucky to have another member let me know not to do this and for the Better Photo Staff to remove them from the contest. I may take up Carolyn's idea and submit a couple of them as new entries. Thank you for your responses.

I can't say I care for the new sharing icons smack in the middle of the photo viewing page. And why is there a print button?? I would prefer someplace more prominent for those who want to use these...just my 2 cents.

Under your Admin Center, the Photos Tab, then under Display Options is a link to "Gallery Options". Part way down that page is an option to show/hide Editor's Picks.

Hmmm... No, if you know it received an Editor's Pick, the little silvery emblem/badge should appear immediately. (How do you know your image got one, by the way, if you can't see the badge in your gallery?) Editor's Picks are assigned all month long, day by day, as the contest entries for each day are given their initial "cursory review" by BP staff, usually with a 1-4 day lag time. Once a particular month ends, then all Editor's Picks amassed for that closed month form the pool for the next rounds of further eliminations (done in private; no announcement or badges are given for surviving those rounds). Those further eliminations ultimately produce the pool of published Finalists, usually sometime in the 3rd week of the month. (Historically, only about 4-5% of all contest entries make it to Finalist.) From the published Finalists, a few days later, come the actual 111 Monthly Winners awarded gold badges for Grand, First and Second Place.

You should be seeing the medal. However, if you uploaded one image for your website and uploaded it again for the contest, it may look exactly the same, but it's not. BP assigns a number to each image, and the two uploads will have separate numbers and only one medal. If that's the case and you still want the medal on your site, you'll have to delete the unmedaled version (only!) and replace it with the contest version with the EP.

Good point--hadn't thought about having 2 "copies" of a single image in the member center---one that was originally for gallery display, and a later one uploaded into the contest. Keep in mind Annette, that once you upload a photo to BP (say, you decide you're only uploading it in order to display it in your gallery, not to make a contest entry), if you ever later decide you want that exact image entered into the contest, you can enter that already-uploaded version; you don't have to upload a 2nd copy just to make the contest entry. Any photo already in your member center can be entered into the contest without a fresh BP upload of that file.

Good luck for your Cathedral renovations - I am from New Zealand and have a daughter living in our earthquake city, Christchurch. I have visited this lovely city many times over the years, and remain saddened by the great loss it has expierenced, and yet heartened by the tenacity of the residents!

You cannot fix it after entering it (unless you delete the photo from your entries and upload it again). Are you sure it was right in your computer? I've never heard of anybody having this problem here.

Thankyou for your response Tiia :) My husband and I figured it was because I have a Mac. I had to rotate the picture in Coral Painting. The Mac doesn't do it. Problem is now solved. In the future I enter my photo in my browser to see if it is sideways or not. Then rotate and then enter. I appreciate your help.

My guess is you'd probably find it to be too fine a line to negotiate---look through the images on BP (contest wins/finalists, other members' galleries) and you'll generally find a near-total absence of nudes, even ones most folks might deem to be artistic. BP's "family-friendly" demographic really doesn't seem to be a match for nudes of any kind, when there are so many other sites that do incorporate artistic nudes, that you could choose from. Nor do the BP sites/galleries have any features to prevent viewing (such as without first clicking "OK" to an age verification.)
Not saying you can't post them here, but I wouldn't be surprised in the least if you did post them, and they bothered some other member, who then contacted BP Support, and you could find your images pulled down.

Go to photo.net for that sort of thing. The fashion and nude images are expertly and tastefully done. You will learn from them. Everyone has his own preferences; I like images of the human body, but find military uniforms on children to be obscene. As CB said, someone will squawk, and you'll have to post somewhere else.

January 2012 Countdown Thread
Hi Everyone! Happy almost Valentine's Day! Everyone grab your favorite chocolate and a beverage of your choosing and let's see what's in store this month. It's Leap Year, but with February still being a short month, I thought maybe I should get a jump on posting this thread. Never know what the judges might have in mind.I look forward every month to seeing which favorites you all choose!
Helpful hints for attaching photos into Forum Threads:
1) Sign into BP completely (name + password.)
2) If you have NOT YET entered the Contest today, you can use the "Photo ID" to pull an existing image from your Member Center into your reply to this thread (avoiding a duplicate image upload.) Get the Photo ID# from your Member Center, come to back this thread, click Respond, enter the text of your reply, then choose "1" from the images-to-attach drop-down. Click Submit; at the next screen populate the "Photo ID" box at the right. Skip the other fields on that screen.
3) If you HAVE ALREADY entered the Contest today before replying to this thread, you can't use the Photo ID method today. You can either wait until tomorrow to reply here (before your new Contest entry!) or, upload a new copy of the particular image (from your PC) into this thread. This produces a duplicate image in your Member Center; however, you don't have to make that duplicate visible in your Gallery.
4) If you're uploading a duplicate, maybe title it "For Forum" so it stands out in your Member Center, for easier housecleaning later... This can help direct viewers to find the original image in your gallery, when they want to leave a comment. Likewise, if you want to add a comment to a photo seen here, try to tell if it is a duplicate upload. As a courtesy, try to find the original image in the member's gallery and leave your comment there instead of on the duplicate---that way, if the duplicate is deleted later, the comment history isn't lost.

At the Hen's House
I found this interesting, old, and very run-down house on a recent drive across central Nebraska. I loved the shadow patterns and, of course, the red -- perspectives were very limited because of dense undergrowth. I didn't get any one that I really liked, and they all lacked punch. I put them into a critique group, distilled the suggestions, and came up with a composite of two house shots (roof from the vertical layered over the horizontal and then extended at the sides with cloning) plus a rooster photo from my archives. I'm putting the three original components of this final image into the discussion.

Hmmm... I don't have any for the current February yet, but I can tell you that past years' results for January contests have come out on February 10th, 19th, 23rd, 22nd, 24th and 21st, respectively. (So I'd say we're hopefully due to get Finalists today!) Every February contest in my records, has fewer entries than the January preceding it (of course, most February's are 3 days shorter, too.) And the average % of January entries to make Finalist, for the past 6 Januarys is 3.25%.

How to get to your course (Campus Square) via your Member Center:
Sign in at the upper right of this page: http://www.betterphoto.com/home.asp (Or, if already signed in, click on the "My Member Center" link.)
That puts you in your Member Center. Next, click on the "My Courses" tab. Then, when the next page displays, click on the course title link under the "Your Campus Squares" header. You'll then be in Campus Square!

I usually don't complain when they skip photos. I have always said it's a matter of taste. Because I like it doesn't mean it's good. However, you could have knocked me over with a feather when they skipped the 3 they skipped this time. I would appreciate you taking a look and commenting for me. I had to do some research to find out what this thing is called! So for those of you as skateboard illiterate as I - this is a grind rail in the local skate park. I took the picture early on a Sunday morning, long before any skaters arrived.

Do you also have a problem with jumping pages?
Today I can't comment any photos without previous comments from my laptop (with Internet Explorer 9) as I cannot select a category of my comment (e.g. Friendly Praise) because the page jumps before I can select it. Also, if I comment a photo with previous comments, the page jumps up and down. Even the page for writing my current comment jumps.

OMG!!! This is driving me NUTS!!!
I thought there was something wrong with my computer! Glad I'm not the only one experiencing this problem! In order for me to do anything within BP, I have to make my screen smaller than 100%, and then it's hard for me to see....
Hopefully BetterPhoto will get this issue resolved soon!!!
