Twenty Six Years Later

26 Years Later, Mount St. Helens-WA
A very cloudy, wet and windy day on our way to Windy Ridge overlook at Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument, Washington State 2006. Photo is of the eastern edge of the blast zone where the trees were killed but left standing. Twenty six years later, the forest is slowly returning.

Love the fog coming down the mountain, the stark tree trunks still standing proud.

Claudia and Derek, thank you. We drove to Windy Ridge on this rainy day hoping the clouds would lift, but never did. We went back the next year and to our surprise we had driven almost to the foot of St. Helens. This is a very beautiful drive and well worth the extra miles.

Oh wow has it really been 26 years? Seems like yesterday! Amazing capture Denny, and thankfully mother nature is so resilient!

I love the way you have captured both the dead trees and the new lush growth! Your lighting is beautiful along with the composition!
I was through this area shortly after the erruption and took many B&Ws of the area, how it has changed! At that time there was nothing green for miles!

Denny this is a great capture - I love the colour of the new growth contrasted with the dead trunks and the fog. -mm
