About Carlton Ward

I have been taking pictures since I was 11 years old when I won point & shoot camera at a halloween contest. I experimented a bit with a Nikon f2 in the late 70's but was constantly on the road playing music for a living and later working in Telecommunications (MCI, Nortel, Ericsson, Sprint). I found a point & shoot to be more practical but vital as I love taking pictures of all the places I have visited. I got off the road a few years back and started taking my photography more serious and after crunching my 35mm crawling over a log on a hike, I decided to try digital and bought a Fuji Finepix S602 (a fixed lens digital SLR camera) in 2001. This camera taught me a lot about digital photography but I wanted more from my photos. I bought a Canon 20D in 2005 (and now I have a 5D Mark II, 40D and a 1Ds as well) along with 5 "L" lenses. I am always learning about techniques, lighting and photoshop and I read & take classes here at BP to gain more understanding.
I currently live in North Bend, Wa (after spending the last 8 years in Portland, Or) and have a large community of friends all along the left coast. I love nature, landscape & macro photography but I also work at a lot of music festivals and community gatherings. I have 1000's of pictures of people in tender moments, smiling faces and at play. Some of these are priceless to me.
Nature's beauty & magic is all around us and I love to share my art with all those who appreciate it.
