Not sure how long I am going to leave this one up. I was going through some pictures of my dog at the lake, and thought this was pretty cool-I'm not sure why and what I could do with it. This is straight out of the camera. #1541566

I really like how sunny and happy this photo is #10817933

LOL! I see everyone is well back from the "doggy shower" as he shakes himself off. Fun shot.

If you want a bit more from this shot, try opening it in the raw editor of PSE and reducing the highlights slider 100%. Then open in PSE and apply the shadows/highlights tool. Set the shadows to zero and apply the darken highlights to 70% to 100%.

This will bring in more detail including his entire nose and will show the people better as well. #10817992

In ACR, I don't see highlights, but I can reduce the exposure. I don't think this is the same-is there another name for highlights?

Nice to "see" you Dale!!! #10818122

Dale Hardin August 23, 2013

Here is screenshot of the slider in ACR as shown in PSE 11. It is not the same as exposure, which changes all levels in the shot. #10818170

Here is the result of the adjustments mentioned to save you the time of trying them Elaine. #10818174

This is a hard one to decide on. I think it does capture a story. It is almost abstract, but you can tell what is going on. I think I prefer the original post to the edit as Dale’s example looks a bit flat to me and nothing you do is going to bring out a lot of detail in the shot. I would just go with it as shown especially if you like it. As Lisa said, it is just kind of a sunny and happy photo. #10818686

I would take this an entirely different directions. I'd suggest going using this to get a high-key, ghostly effect. #10818756

Yup! That's what dogs do! Fun shot #10819526

Ok-here are the two edits requested. I think I missed the boat with the "high key" edit, but I tried. Stephen, if you had something else in mind, let me know what you were thinking.

Thanks for the input! #10820371

One more. #10820393

You have a lifetime model here, Elaine. As I mentioned before, get that stick ready to beat off the boys. #10820468

Thanks Dale:)

I have no idea why I typed in "Erin and Me" It should have just read "Erin". She happened to be in a good mood for the minute and I used my awesome pop-up flash to fill. It didn't turn out too badly!

This was at the lake by the way, she got wet going in. #10820499

Stephen Shoff August 25, 2013

You didn't miss the boat on my suggestion. The grey-tone image was what I was describing. Personally, I don't think any amount of enhancement will bring out detail and make this a strong picture of a dog or people. So my suggestion was to make it suggestive and impressionistic. #10820697

Elaine Hessler August 26, 2013

Ok good Stephen. It was fun to try something new.

I did fool around with the settings Dale suggested, and when I went too far, the image looked weird, so I stopped where I did with the first edit.

I do like due to the lack of detail, but you can figure out what it's about. It was a good exercise to see what could be done with this one.

So, onto the next! #10821283

I am late as usual, but this is a fun photo!!! I think the high key was interesting. Erin is Beautiful, you better watch the boys! #10821687

Well, this is a head scratcher, I swear I had commented on this before. I like the black and white version. #10822593
