Beth in many ways this is a beautiful shot. I love the curve of the flowers, the color, and the BG. The problem I see is that the most prominent flower is not quite in focus due to being above the focal plane where the other three are nice and sharp. You might try going to f22 or so in order to increase the DOF to get them all. I am sure you shot this from a tripod so the increase in shutter speed would not be critical. IF you have live view, check the shot with a DOF preview. #1524015

I agree with Michael the main area of focus is off. Nice color and comp #10654064

Very nice and pleasing composition, Beth. Do agree with the guys assessment. Although, for a small format image like this, the problem is correctable, but might not work so well if a very large printing. #10654113

Very nice, Beth. Don't think I would have noticed the focus problem. #10654130

Very nice, Beth. I love the pov and the composition of this. I look at the other comments and I did notice there is a slight out of focus on the large flower as well as the one of the far left. However, I like it this way. If my eye wanders off to either side, the flow of your composition brings me back to the main area! The colors are beautiful! Great shot! #10654784

I like how the light of the far left starts you up the flower ladder. this is a great capture, of lines, color and textures. the focus that was spoken of is not a problem for me. great job Beth! #10655247

Thanks, these are very small flowers, the first wildflowers that seem to come up. It was very windy and sunny. I was using a reflector with black on it to cut the light down. Then I was trying to shoot when the wind died off for a second. I have a few more I think the focus may be better. I got some more today but have not looked at them yet. #10656259

Yeah spring! I Favor the second shot. Just curious, you said you wanted to cut down on the light. Was it too sunny? And how did you do that-did you use the reflector to shad the flower? Just curious. The black background sets off the blooms very nicely. And I like the closed flowers pointing down too. It's nice to know that is coming my way soon! #10657779

Very nice Beth. In many ways I am glad I am not a perfectionist as my nature is such that I only see the 'bigger picture' in life and a bit of out-of-focus I don't even notice and could go as far as to say I am considering not reading responses but just enjoying the images and what they represent.
I am certainly not claiming my way of seeing life is the right way or the only way and I admire all you who seek perfection but being in the autumn of my own life I seek to spread and receive only the joy that comes from finding beauty in what sometimes seems a grey life of violence and corruption.

Elaine, the black behind the flower was
my tripod case, I put the black cover on my reflector to try and make some shade. It was mid afternoon very bright and very windy. I had gone out really early but it was too cold for the flowers to open so that was the opportunity I had.
Peter the little out of focus does not really bother me as I was glad I was able to get something as still as I did. I don't mind people pointing that out because then I am more aware the next time. I just like being out in the woods and being able to bring some of the beauty I see to others. #10658202
