I took this early this morning in the metro parks. There were fly fisherman everywhere. I am not sure how to crop this. Here are two more from after our morning trail run-very frosty this morning! #1499103

I really like the crop as is; I find all the space gives it a sense of peace. The only thing I think that could go is the little twig on the top left hand corner. Looks like a beautiful spot! #10424756

I also think the tree limb in the upper left hand corner could go and I am wondering if you could bring the highlights down just a bit? It really looks cold.
I really like the frosty one but think a tighter crop removing the out of focus frost would make it look stronger. #10424777

I agree, I like the crop the way it is on the first image. Get rid of the limb and you are all set. #10425164

I only want to comment on the fly-fishing scene. Sure, get rid of the twig but otherwise so perfect that thousands of hours of casting a fly on placid stream and lake have come flooding back and there must be pollen in the air as my eyes are damp.
Thank you for sharing this Elaine. #10425328

Thanks! I am going to try again to get rid of the darn twig. Had trouble doing last night, but will give it another go. Do any of you think the highlights on the water are too bright? I adjusted the levels and warmed this up a lot.

And Peter, glad to post something meaningful to you. #10425509

I really like the peaceful quality to this one! :~) I agree the composition you have here works very well. I am curious as to what a square crop would look like taking all off the bottom. Sometimes when cloning it helps to zoom way in. #10425911

Hi-I cloned out the twig, now it looks like a tree. Not the best cloning job, but it was a bit difficult getting the area to blend in. I also tried the square crop, and I like the effect, it is really different. Let me know what you think!

Thanks for the input! #10425929

I like the light and don't think the highlights are to much. Both crops seem to work well and just provide a slightly different feel to the shot. I think either you prefer would work fine. Overall a very nice shot and I like it a lot. #10426756

I think its the silhouette that establishes the wonderful mood of this, Elaine. I liked the square crop, but when I opened it up, it seemed to me that the detail in the fisherman, and the fact that he became the subject spoiled the effect.

I would suggest going with the original crop or an 4:5 vertical cropping off the bottom. I'd also reduce detail in the fisherman by cloning out the reflective band on his sleeve and the the little drawstring hanging down from the front of his jacket. #10427227

I like both crops :~) #10427346

I agree with Stephen, I prefer the original crop. #10427354

i am with the original crop too. Nothing wrong with the square but as Stephen said it gives a different feel. For me it then becomes a candid portrait of a fisherman whereas the original speaks to me of a whole mood of being alone on a river concentrating on placing my fly just by the ripple of a rising trout and waiting expectantly for it to be sucked under before lifting my rod end and setting the hook. The only thing missing is a curl of smoke from my tobacco pipe as my joy is complete. #10427746

Beautiful image, Elaine. I like the first crop best as it gives a sense of what you actually saw that morning. I think all the wispy limbs should stay in the upper left hand corner but the thicker branch could go. #10429268

Thanks for the input! I completely agree with you and cloned out the tag on the sleeve and the drawstring. I also cropped at a 4x5 so you can see what it looks like. I think I will enter the original crop. #10433080

By the way, a belated happy Thanksgiving to you all! #10433083

Nice work Elaine. I think you made a good choice. #10437018

Thank you! I ended up entering the 4x5 crop. It got an EP! #10437055
