This was supposed to be a BW image, but the color turned out MUCH better. This bug was on my friend's car after taking a run in the metroparks. We were taking pictures and someone put the leaf near the bug, which really made this interesting. I never expected this to turn out as well as it did-the car made for some interesting reflections!

Oh, I had a technical problem of the head being a little soft, so I experimented with a lot of sharpening. Let me know if I over sharpened or if there is something else I can do to fix it. #1494073

Elaine, I think this picture looks fantastic. I love the reflections of the car, and the three main colours look great together. It doesn't look over-sharpened to me. #10381271

Very nice. I love the reflections and at first thought this was a leaf on water. I think you did a good job on your sharpening and see no problems.

You might want to try to selectively lighten the area behind the head on the Katydid's body - not to much though. It looks fine as shown but I think it might look even better without as much contrast with the head. Numerous ways to do this but a slight dodge might be the easiest. #10381572

Fantastic capture! I'm glad the leaf blur in the foreground doesn't obstruct the insect. The colors (and that dark b/g) in this are terrific. I hope you enter it! #10381573

I, too, thought the leaf was on water! I think you sharpened it just right and the colors/comp are just about perfect. I'd enter in the contest as Christopher suggested :) #10382655

Very cool! Mikes suggestion should be all this needs. #10382666

Elaine, I have never seen one of these bugs but then, the camouflage is so perfect that perhaps I have without knowing it!
Super image! #10383472

Thanks for the input. How's this? I'll enter it after I get the okay. I don't want to mess this entry up! I NEVER get this lucky:) #10383910

I prefer the head/face from the first one better---sharper. #10383915

Brandi K. Mills October 25, 2012

Very cool! I thought it was on the water also! And I agree, you should definitely enter it!! The colors and the reflection are really neat. I'm glad you went with color. #10384105

Count me in on the accolades Elaine. Had me fooled about the "water". By the way, must agree that the face of the first post is better. #10384233

You guys have great eyes. I have no idea how that became unsharpened, so you can see how soft the head is. Bummer. Here it is sharpened again, with the body lightened as Mike requested. Sorry about that! #10384244
