Nice back lighting. Love the hair highlights. The tones look good and match the light well. Nice and clear and the burst to the center of the shot emphasizes the lighting situation.

My only suggestion is to go with a horizontal 8 X 10 crop full hight and taking all of the excess off the left side of the shot. This is a suggestion I am not sure will work until we see it. #1492026

Here are a couple crops. What do you think? #10367900

Michael Kelly level-classic October 13, 2012

I don't care for either new crop. The first is to tight to the top and the second is not tight enough and looses all the nice BG.

I was suggesting something like this which I am still not sure is a great improvement form the original. #10368029

Congratulations on EP. I love the back lighting and I actually prefer it without the crop of any !sort #10368101

Jeff E Jensen October 13, 2012

Before I read any of this, my first thought was that the crop needed some work. I like Mike's suggestion. #10368251

Teresa H. Hunt October 13, 2012

I love the backlighting on this one and the soft hazy look.

I like Mike's suggested crop. I was thinking the WB might need tweaking, but since no one has mentioned it . . . it's probably just me. :) #10368265

What a happy, hopeful picture! Totally deserves the EP. Nice work #10368321

brandi this is a great shot, I really like the back lighting and soft golden glow that is given.

for me I like the empty space, I like your first crop. but I would give it just alittle more head room (for framing purposes) and clone out any white that might come back into the image. the upper left corner is a distraction for sure

congrat's on your EP #10368842

Michael Kelly level-classic October 14, 2012

Teresa the WB is off, but in this case it works well with the back light situation to give the nice golden glow that makes this shot. If the WB was adjusted to normal for the white in her teeth for example the shot whould not have much impact and I don't think we would like it very much. #10368858

A very warm and happy shot, Brandi. As Mike noted, the backlighting and resulting highlights on the hair really nail this image.

Don't understand all the concern about the crop. Many crops would work because it is a friendly warm image. The problem that should be addressed is the very distracting bright area in the upper left.

This is easily corrected with cloning as I've illustrated in this sample. As far as the WB, I agree it is not a deal breaker because it compliments the warmness of the image.

But it wouldn't hurt to tweak the skin just a bit. In this sample I've added a #80 cooling filter at about 12% and then masked to just change the face, neck and dress. #10369263

While I like Mikes crop alot I don't see the original as a problem. Very pretty back light you have captured here and a nice expression. Did you have to brighten her face in editing or did you use a reflector? It looks like it was done post processing. The bright spot...yes it could be cloned out or made smaller, but only if the cloning can be done so it isn't noticable. :~) #10369412

Beth Spencer October 14, 2012

Congratulations on the EP! I like your first crop but think a little head room would be helpful when you frame it. The back lighting is beautiful. #10369648

Brandi K. Mills October 14, 2012

Thank you all for your input.
I liked the warmth of it, but do think maybe I warmed it up a bit too much...
I think I mentioned before I was unfamiliar with cloning and said I had lightroom 3.6 which I don't think it capable, otherwise I'd give it a try :)
I did brighten her face in editing. No reflector.
I'll post another and cool it down a bit and maybe leave a little more room for framing. I would try the cloning thing to darken that bright spot if I could :) #10369661

Michael Kelly level-classic October 14, 2012

I would put some of that wonderful golden light back in. This last is more realistic, but for me it looses the magic of the original post. #10369678

Jeff E Jensen October 14, 2012

Yup, I agree, somewhere in between.

And, use the spot removal tool, it just a fancy name for a clone tool. #10369681

Brandi K. Mills October 14, 2012

Ya, I did go to cool.
I tried the spot removal and for some reason it keeps turning the spots purple... I can't figure it out. #10369699

Jeff E Jensen October 14, 2012

Make sure you have it set to clone and not heal. #10369700

Brandi K. Mills October 14, 2012

It seems to happen with clone and heal... #10369706

I know the CS versions of photoshop are expensive, but the Elements versions are awesome and under $100 in case you were thinking about it in the near future. :~) #10370648

Dale Hardin October 15, 2012

The clone I did in the sample I posted above was done In Elements and took about ten seconds to do. Something to think about Brandi. #10370760
