shooting the moon I've had only limited success shooting pictures of the moon on film. I recently attempted to shoot a lunar eclipse. I bracketed my exposures quite a bit since I wasn't sure what the exposure should be. (I used an f8 aperture and varied my exposures between 1/15th sec up to 1/1000th sec. All the prints (as well as the negatives) I got back looked like they were all exposed at the same aperture. They were underexposed, and very grainy. The moon was barely distinguishable. I was using Fuji ISO 400 speed film. (Could this have accounted for the graininess?) I would appreciate any advice. Jeff Grove

The following links should be heplful: http://www.u-net.com/ph/mas/observe/lunar-p/lunar-p.htm http://www.popphoto.com/idealbb/view.php?topicID=1088&forumID=1&catID=4&search=1&searchstring=&sessionID={F0C64AF1-029C-4D37-845A-B7862B081A61} For full moon and 400 ISO film, f/8 and 1/250 or 1/500 should have been about right, and longer shutter speeds as the eclipse progressed. The prints look grainy because the print machine overcorrected the mass of black sky and printed it gray and grainy, and probably blew out any details of the moon in doing so. Have them reprinted.
