Fill in Flash in Nikon F80/N80 I have got a question regarding the built in Flash in Nikon F80 / N80 I wanted to use the built in flash for fill in purpose. What I could make out from the user manual is that if the camera is not on manual mode & not on spot metering, the built in flash automatically senses the distance & adjusts the flash to fill in the picture. I tried that with an outdoor potrait of my son in a park by setting the camera in aperture priorty & matrix metering. The aperture was set to f4 / f5.6. Under both these the camera showed an overexposure warning. I had to change the aperture to F8 to get the potrait, & thus increasing the depth of field. Have I understood the functioning rightly? Also, I try to shoot most of my picture in manual mode and metering through spot metering. According to the manual these will not work for fill in flash. How do I make the fill in flash work under these conditions??

I'm not so familiar with the N/F80 to tell you about the metering options, but I think I know the problem you had in the park. Assuming you were shooting in daylight, you're going to be limited by the N/F80's minimum flash sync shutter speed of 1/125 sec. At 1/125 and f/4 your sunlit background was measured by the camera meter as being overexposed. Since you can't use a faster shutter speed with the flash you had to stop down to f/8. You'll need slower film if you want to use a larger aperture and fill flash and in that type of situation.

Dear Jon, Thanks for your response. It would be helpful. Though I was ISO 100 film. Any ideas on the second part of the question??
