How do I shoot holiday lights at night? There is a desert garden in my area that is being decorated for the holidays. What is the best way to capture these beautiful lights at night without making them appear washed out?

Someone else may have a better answer, but I think if you start your exposure at dusk, around 20 minutes after sunset and just before the sky goes black, the effect will be better than a pitch black sky. Meter for the cobalt blue sky and then compose your shot with the lights.
