Contest rules for September Do we know yet if the contest rules are going back to the "old" rules in September (resubs, submitting photos taken more than 60 days ago)? Thanks

I am not sure but it was supposed to only be for the three months, so I am going to post in September as if the old rules are in effect. I would hope if they are going to run these new rules longer they would let us know soon and not on the first of Sept.

Peggy, I haven't heard either. But I can tell you that I accidentally posted resubmits for June, the first month in which we weren't supposed to do resubmits and two went to Finalist. And I noticed others have gotten finalists or SFs with resubmits. So, I decided to resubmit other photos recently for August contest. I haven't had a chance to do much photography lately, so I just resubmitted. If BP decides to omit them, then that's fine. Other than a few forum posts on this, I"ve seen nothing else that says we can't resubmit older photos or submit "new" photos that are older. Most BPers don't follow the forums so they've never known about this. And I don't recall seeing a disclaimer on the contest upload page, which is why many are still posting older photos, or resubmits. So, that's what I'm doing. I wish BP would formalize this informal rule that resubmits or "older" photos aren't allowed. But you're right..it was suppose to be for three months, Jun thru Aug...so I'm thinking September is fine regardless. But again...just check the contest pages now and you'll see a ton of photos that are entered into the contest that weren't taken in the last couple of months.

Thanks, Ken. I agree with all your points. I have not entered much since the "summer" rules have been in place either, because it is miserably hot in the summer where I live, and I don't have a studio. I also like to "sit" on my images for a while, so I am often working on images that are more than 60 days old, by choice. I look forward to September!

Amen Peggy! I totally agree with your comments and appreciate Ken's clarification. My entries have been limited this Summer also due to the very hot, muggy weather. I am looking forward to Fall and hopefully a return to "normal", or whatever passes for normal.

I agree with everyone as well. It has been a hectic summer for me along with oppressive heat which has kept me indoors so I haven't submitted all that much these past 3 months.

Jim was nice enough to let me post work I shot in the past, but I chose images I had never done anything with and used newer filters and textures etc when processing them. We have had a series of bad stuff happen over this summer with losing both our Mom's, wildfires in the area etc. so I have not been anywhere shooting but my yard... There are plenty of other photo sites that have rules like that, and I don't join them. To change the rules after somebody just renewed their gallery for another 2 years is not really fair ...BP could just ask that we do not resubmit the same pictures in the same categories? Sometimes I post something not sure which category to put it in and if it doesn't get any attention, I will post it in a different category down the road... I am all for posting new stuff, but it should not matter when it was shot as long as it hasn't been posted before...Just my 2 cents :-)

Jill, I agree with the points you make. I too have been confused at times as to which category would be best for submitting an image. Resubmits should be permitted in different categories at DPS, regardless of when they were shot. I adhered to Jim's criteria for submitting images during the Summer but found it very constraining and hope it will be a one time experiment.

As per Jim's own notice, the 60-day rule was meant for June, July and August only. And as far as I am concerned, I have trued to religiously follow it. So I don't see any reason for us not to revert to the norm starting September 1st. Ohhhhhh, and like many of us, how bad I was looking forward to September 1 :) So I plan to post photos taken in June and earlier months in September contest. This summer has seen me visit far off places and there are loads of images that I haven't yet even looked at and it seems probable that I will be vomitting a lot of these which I was holding back during the last three months. Usman.
