Photography Question

Black and White

I have been playing around lately with converting some of my digital photos to black and white. I am wondering what you all think about proposing to BetterPhoto that they add a contest category for black and white photos.

I realize that any black and white photo can be entered in any of the current contest categories. However, in this day and age of digital photography, I think the art of black and white photography is rapidly vanishing.

Now that I am starting to work with converting some of my photos to black and white I am rediscovering (since I am old enough to remember actually shooting with black and white film) what beauty and character black and white photos can show. Much more so, I think, than color in certain circumstances.

Anyway, it has been a while since I have last participated or started a discussion thread. So I thought I would just throw this out there and see what you all think! My thinking is that BetterPhoto can do the digital photography world a huge favor by introducing a black and white category in its monthly contest, thereby encouraging all of us to rediscove (or discover for the first time) the beauty of black and white photography.

Have a great weekend!

I tool love B&W...but it's doubtful a new category will be created for that.

Hi Ronald,
Just enter your B&Ws by the theme category as they are judged equally alongside the color photos. I convert a few to B&W when a specific image speaks to me or I am trying to create a different look or mood - but I do love my color images. There are some other things like sepia & split-toning that also create a different look.
Its your art so experiment & play with your image edits and see what works best to portray what you want to say with an image.
Cheers,
Carlton
