8x12 Frames for Prints Since I have not been able to break my filling-the-frame habit yet from film days, and it forces me to buy 8x12 sizes rather than 8x10 due to major cropping issues. Where can I buy 8x12 frames? Michaels, Wal mart, Hobby Lobby don't have them, and even B&H only had a few.

If you were using a 35mm film camera, the lab did the cropping for you. Even with a 645 and 6X7, some croping was necessary. Have you checked in your post-processing program to be sure that the photo cannot be cropped to 8X10. Yes, you will lose some of the photo just like you always did with 35mm film. As Jeff suggested, do a google search because 8x12 frames are becoming more readily available. (about time!) :-)

I will check that site out thanks. Lynn: I never knew that I lost anything on film developing b/c I never actually saw the cropping, I guess. I am not sure how to try and crop to an 8x10 w/o losing a lot of the pic. Still have much to learn :)

Aaron Brothers has them - both straight 8x12 and they also have mats cut for 8x12 images and frames to fit the matted size - for the life of me I can't remember what size that is. But twice a year, they have the penny sale (January and July), and I load up!

HI - I also do 8 X 12 prints and shop at Hobby Lobby - I use the metal frames you buy by the length of each side. I don't frame a photo without a mat so use them to cut mats for me with an 8X12 opening. you can get an 8X12 frame to fit the photo but consider the print being right up against the glass - never a good idea. get a larger frame and mat and have a perfect framed photo. alice

Hi Pamela, In order not to lose any of your image, I recommend sizing it to approximately 7.5x 11. Print it on 8.5 x 11 paper and mat it out to 11 x 14. No problem getting 11 x 14 frames at AC Moore, Michaels, etc. This works well for me. Good luck! BTW, I always try to mat out all prints for framing to standard sizes. Saves a lot of money over custom framing. Regards, Allen

Hi Pamela, I use mats from Logan with an 8x12 opening cut into them and they are 11 x 14 on the outside. 11 x 14 frames are usually available at most fram places. MCS mkaes nice frames that come with backing and glass for very cheap if you want to buy sesveral cases at a time. If you do alot of framing it's worth it to pay the shipping. You can always split the order with friends to meet the minimum order and if you have a tax resale number you only pay wholesale prices and no tax.

A couple of years ago I got some nice frames for 8x12 from Kohl's. Watch for their frequent 40-60% off sales. If the frame does not have a mat or a mat you like try Redi-Mat http://www.redimat.com/ As I went to get this link I saw they were advertising framing, but I didn't stop to get any details about that.

thanks everyone for all the great tips...I would mat all mine, but this person did not want matting due to space issues on the wall so I was stuck, I will try some of the re-sizing options on the same pics to see what looks best. thanks again :)

I NEVER, NEVER, NEVER fill a frame with my photos. I ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS use mats. Photos look naked without a mat. For 7x10 photo, frame with 11x14; for 12x16 photo, frame with 16x20. But regardless of the photo size, I always mat up to the next standard frame size using at least a 1.5 or 2" mat--customizing the mat size to fit the frame, of course.
