Editor's First Pick What is the significance of the Editor's First Pick?

I was wondering the same thing.

Until just now when I found the following in another thread. From Jim Miotke, as posted in another Forum thread here recently: "Hello friends, In the past, if you wanted to find new photos for discussion, you might go to "New Arrivals". The problem with that, though, is that this group is global and unedited. It's everything being uploaded to BP. So you often see duplicate photos or an entire page of one subject, for example. The "Editor's Picks" will give you a selection of interesting photos upon which you can comment. We still have the "New Arrivals" and "Recent Contest Entries" categories, for those of you who want to see that global set of images. But for those of you who would like to just see the unique photos that catch our eye, the "Editor's Picks" will be just the ticket. Enjoy!"

The Editor's Picks are now being updated on our galleries--even back dated. Go to your gallery to see if you have any--how exciting! It's nice to see what "almost" made it to FINALS (if that is the case).

I'm sure this will raise spirited debate--I'm glad BP recognized the EPs. My only recommendation would be to make them smaller in size, and a different color. That way, they're not on the same par as the 2nd and 1st place winners, and the POTDs. Again, they're deserving, but I think their size and color put them on a par with the hard-to-come-by gold medals, which could take away from the prestige of the original gold medals.

LOL...I feel like I was spammed! Not complaining; but 12 out of 30? Hmmmm?...and many in my gallery are over a year old. Thanks..I think. ;) Pete

I went through all my stored pictures and brought up all the editors picks and displayed them and took took off all the pictures that did not have them. Now I have lots of gold buttons. This was fun to see which one's were being considered.

Kerby, if they aren't displayed how do you know which ones have EFP buttons? I was thinking of doing the same thing you did but not sure how you know which ones?

Marie you go into your base of pictures and click on each one and press display if it has a button and hide it or delete if it doesn't. It took me about an hour. But it worked.

Open 2 windows, one with your gallery with the thumbnails, and one window where you click on edit my photos in your member center. Then go back and forth between the two.

thanks... I'll try it...

Oh Marie, if you be sure to click "show displayed photos first", they will be in the same order as your gallery thumbnails.

I must say I was pleased when I saw the Editors Picks Button, however, I have to agree with Ken S. Gold seems should only be for the top winners, so maybe a different color for EP's so as not to distract from the best of the best. p.s. I have never received a gold winner, but if I ever do, it will be special to me! congrats to all those who have the original Gold Medalions. Thanks BP for being so kind to encourage us that get EP also. jo ann c.

Oh Marie...sorry..I didn't know that photos not displayed in your gallery might also have them, so my idea won't work on those, but it should narrow it down so you don't have to click each photo one at a time!

I also have to agree with Ken and Jo Ann. I like the new addition to our gallery, but would like to see a different color than GOLD. When looking through BP member's galleries, I notice silver FINALISTS medals more than I notice the gold WINNERS medals. Also, I am still confused as to the fact that a photo can still become a finalist if it wasn't chosen as an EFP. If it didn't catch the judges eye as an interesting photo, how can it become a finalsit? I guess it will be something we will have to watch and see. I was surprised today when I looked at my gallery!

Did this just happen today? I thought no one looked at my gallery until today and saw some EFPs. Now I'm even more inspired....although I liked my own work.

Sharon, the criteria for an EFP is something that caught the eye of an "Editor". I am not sure if it has anything to do with the judges. I assume they two seperate entities. I could be wrong of course, it's happened before. :-)

Are they your two finalists perhaps?

Wow, this IS exciting! I haven't been to my Gallery for quite a while (haven't put new photos to the contest, either), and tonight I go there to realize that I have 12 (out of 29) Editor's Pick buttons. It really IS encouraging (and inspirational) - thanks :))

Rahela I concur. I was starting to get very discouraged and opened my gallery after not being there for a while to a wonderful 11 out of 30 EFP's. I was absolutely worthless for about 2 hours overcome with excitement. Truly encouraging and inspirational!!!! Thank you BP!!!!!

Thank you for doing this. I was very discouraged but to find out that several of my photos were at least considered to be efp's made me feel very proud indeed and I will now continue on. Thank you again for doing this it was just the boast in confidence I needed. Rhonda

Hey! I just noticed this comment by BP, and thought you may be interested in reading it if you haven't already, plus like the new drag and drop feature so much better than before! The Editors pick are the photos that have made it through the first round of judging in the monthly contest. If your photo makes it through the subsequent rounds and gets selected as a finalist or winner, the EFP banner will be replaced by the applicable button.

That's right Dennis, just like the item above copied from BP said, only you condensed it. First EFP's, then finalist, then Medalions of the "Big Winners1" jo ann c. jo ann c

The "Editor's Picks" are simply contest entries that have moved on from round 1 of the contest judging. These images are found to be interesting, eye-catching or beautiful to the judges. In the past, if you wanted to find new photos for discussion, you might go to "New Arrivals" or "Current Contest Entries". The problem with that, though, is that this group is global and unedited - everything being uploaded to BP. The "Editor's Picks" gives you a selection of photos that will continue to the next round of judging. They are updated weekly.

So what happens if you submit a photo to the contest directly from your gallery? Since it is not recently uploaded will it still be considered for EFP?
|
|
|

Colleen Farrell |
Yes, Grace, I think it will. It's still a recent entry to the contest.

As long as you enter in this month, it will be considered for this month, and they start all over in August. I notice they have entered one EFP about every other day. jo ann c.

So if you get an EFP on a photo you uploaded on let's say Monday, but do not have any EFPs for photos loaded during the previous days, does that mean that the photos previously loaede were not selected for EFPs?

I'm interested too, Cynthia. I don't know, but I think that would be the case. Though they could make a second pass, I wouldn't think it likely given the volume of total entries. I've noticed the picks have slowed down considerably--or come to a screeching halt--since the 3rd or 4th of August. There were almost none on the 4th and the only one I've noticed since then was on today's POTD, Zeus by Christina Martins which was uploaded on July 6th. I know the official explanation of the picks says they will be updated weekly and a week isn't quite up, but this gap is a noticeable break in the rhythm BP had established leading up to the 4th. Hopefully others will weigh in, too.

The Editor's Picks are nice, and it certainly made my gallery more colorful. Before, I had 4 finalists and one First Place win (which I still can't believe I won). Now I have those + 15 Editor's Picks. A nice bronze color would be cool for them, as my win does sort of get lost in the view, but it's nice to see they liked them!
