Photography Question

best lens

I am a portrait/event/hopefully soon wedding photographer and I have two lenses: 70-300mm 1:4-5.6DG and a 28-70mm 1:2.8-4
I am in the market for the "perfect" lens for these types of photography. Any suggestions? I want to be able to blur backgrounds easily (for portraits) and yet have enough zoom for weddings/events.
PLEASE HELP!!!

You CAN do it with your 28-70mm 1:2.8-4.
An EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM would be preferable, though.
The 70-300mm 1:4-5.6DG is of little use for weddings.

  Hello Jessica,

The perfect lens? Well; you know there is no such thing. :)
...or to say it another way, there is no free lunch.

To cover such a wide array of shooting subjects, you will want a zoom in the area of 18-200mm.
The tradeoff in going this route is you will sacrifice distortions at the extremes. Most of these distortions can be corrected in post processing although you don't always have to.

On the plus side of the ledger, you won't have to change lenses often with the added benefit of little chance of dust entering your camera.

All the best,

Pete
