Tokina AF 28-210mm lens for Pentax

Hi,

I just upgraded my film SLR to a Pentax DSLR. Sadly one of the manual lenses I used with my film doesn't seem to work at all witht the new body and I was looking at different lenses. I came across the Tokina AF 28-210mmf4.2-6.5. Does anyone have experience with thie lense? Any feedback would be highly appreciated!

If your manual lens has an "A" setting on the aperture ring, you have to set it to A and adjust the aperture with the controls on the DSLR. The Pentax DSLRs will not allow you to set the aperture directly with the lens aperture ring.

I'm not sure Tokina made an AF 28-210 f/4.2-6.5, but Cosina did. Either way, it'd be an early attempt at super-zoom. The first generation of the 28-200/300 zooms by Tamron/Tokina/Sigma/etc. were not as good as the later generations. Later models had better optics and wider maximum apertures (generaly f/3.5-5.6 or 3.5-6.3). Plus 28mm doesn't give wide angle view with a DSLR. For an all-in-one-zoom I'd look at the current model Tamron 18-200 f/3.5-6.3 XR Di II or Sigma 18-200 f/3.5-6.3 DC.

Thanks a lot for your reply. big help since I was also looking at the sigma lense you mentioned. The 'old' lense I have is a Sears 80-300 or so...really enjoyed the spectrum of it, although I must say that the overall picture always was a little foggy. So I'll keep looking. Thanks again for your help.
