Shooting for stock

Hello all,I was wondering if anyone here has been shooting photos using a entry level DSLR such as a Canon 400D or Nikon D80 and getting them accepted by any of the rights managed librarys.I know it is not easy to get accepted but I love the challange involved and I have plenty of spare time to shoot. So would like to here any advice as to the suitability of the cameras I have mentioned,(Quality lenses attached of course.)I am leaning more towards the 400D with a 50mm 1.8 prime to start with.Thank you in advance for any advice provided. Marty

I can't speak for the "regular" stock agencies such as Alamy, Getty, etc., but the microstock agencies such as Shutterstock, Dreamstime, etc. have a minimum number of megapixels that they require for an image. This ranges anywhere from 2mp to 4mp depending on the agency. So for microstock these cameras are more than enough.

I hear that the non microstock companies are about to require 10+ megapixel cameras. A friend of mine who's in quite a few, has been told to get a bigger MP camera or bye bye. (She has an 8MP)

Yikes...good to know, Carolyn. I'm glad I'm planning on moving up to a D200 next year.

I applied and was accepted to a stock agency 2 months ago. What I have to say mirrors what Carolyn stated. No image will be accepted less, then 8mp! At that time I owned (and cherished) a Canon 20D... 8mp. Not enough... could only submit full framed shots, no cropping or adjustment to horizon. Had to sell the 20D, upgrade to a 5D, with an L piece of glass to handle 95% of my requirements (L IS USM 24-105mm). This gave me 13mp to work with.
So, to answer your question, if not a micro stock agency, NO entry level DSLR. Hope this helps and good luck with your endeavor! Cheers, Glenn.

  Here is what Almay requires.

Our standard advice for preparing digital camera files for Alamy is as follows:

Use a pro-level camera with a "true" (non-interpolated) resolution of at least 6 megapixels. This will give a file size of at least 17MB at 8 bit.
Carefully consider your choice of lens. Lens quality is just as important today as it ever was.

They have additional requirements listed.
Here is the link.

I have a 300D and plan on sending in some images to see if they will be accepted.
