Which Category? The other image of another Chinese fishing boat has been worked in PS and has an accented edges filter applied to it. Not exactly elaborate or fancy digital darkroom work, but do think that the overall impact and beauty of the photo is due to the accented edges applied to it, even though it is not dramatically altered because of it. My question is, to compete in the digital darkroom category, would such simple and common filters be considered elaborate enough for that category? I also have a number of close up and macro flower and plant images with really lovely effects due to the accented edges filter, but hesitate to submit them in this category for the same reason.

Susan, I think "Clicking Along" would be well-suited for the Digital Darkroom category, although, I agree that many of the entries (and winners) in that category tend to have more drastic alterations done to them. I think the other image is difficult to categorize, based on the current categories in the contest. I've commented several times that I think some additional categories would be helpful. There are scenic pictures that are not really landscapes or travel pictures. There are still life pictures that are not elements of design or macro & detail. I have a hard time categorizing some pictures. Chris

These are tough ones to categorize. I don't think Digital Darkroom is the right category for either of them, though. The first one is more of a travel or landscape and the second one is maybe detail?? I'd be sitting there all day trying to decide if they were mine.

Thanks Chris and Carolyn! I think a "Mode of Transport" or "Vehicles" category would be helpful---kind of like the "People" or "Animals" categories, but for the inanimate. And yes, a "Still Life" category would be useful---I've had some hard choices with that problem and had to put either in elements of design or macro and detail instead. But adding on categories would probably be complicated, as it would involve more winners and more prizes for them to hand out, as well, perhaps, as more time for the staff. Maybe have to resort to putting both in the travel and place category to be safe.
