Which Camera Is Best??

Photography is a hobby of mine but yet I don't know much about which cameras shoot the best pictures. I'm looking for a camera that I can hold the shutter down and it will rapid shoot. My son is 2 months old and taking pictures of him is hard because just when I got him to smile the camera takes forever to take the picture. I just want to hold down the shutter and snap away. Which cameras out there do this feature and what should I look for? Do you have any suggestions to which cameras would be the best for this feature and also produce very clear pictures? I have an Olympus d-580 right now and I like it pretty good but I want something that is really good? Oh, but my budget only allows me up to about $500.

I can't tell you a specific camera, but I can give you some good advice. First, go to the camera store and get your hands on one of them. One reason for this is that I could reccomend a camera that I like, but in your hands, it may feel too heavy and the controls may feel awkward. Second, stick with major brands. These include(but are not limited to) Canon, Nikon, Sony, Konica-Minolta, Pentax, Kodak, ect.

Misty - the only cameras that can take quick shots like you want are SLRs and if you want digital... you won't find that for under $500 (unless you can find a used one).

The only way I ever got my old nikon coolpix 3200 to do that was by using action shot... which I could only use in broad daylight. And even then it wasn't THAT quick. I just got very used to it and learned to time it perfectly... which involved sitting there with the focus button half pushed until the moment I wanted the photo.

good luck!

To expand a little on what the others have already said..."The best" camera may not at all be what you need. I think my Sigma SD10 is a great camera ( http://aps8.com/sigmasd10.html ), but I don't know that it is always 'fast'. I also wouldn't recommend it for everyone--and it is out of that price range.

Actually, something simpler might be faster, simply because there is less power to zoom and less to balance. The Kodak Easyshare DX7630 is an older 6MP model, but has a quick focus ( http://aps8.com/kodak.html ). It is also about half what your budget is. maybe you need a simple camera to capture quick stuff and snapshots?

If there were one 'best' camera to have, and it was a reasonable price, everybody would have the same one and there wouldn't be so many on the market! it is likely you'll have a bit of shopping around to do. There is nothing so telling as actually holding a camera and trying it out.
