Chick friendly camera case? Ok, maybe it's just me, but I think most camera cases are ugly. Not just ugly, but fugly. Sometimes, I shoot a wedding. sometimes, I shoot on location, and go directly from the shoot to grab a bite to eat, or to meet my fiance for lunch, and I don't want to leave my rather costly camera equipment in the car - let's be real, I didn't want to leave my old cheap camera in the car. Let's be truly honest in fact - I'M ADDICTED TO MY CAMERA THE WAY A SMOKER IS ADDICTED TO CIGARETTES, AND I DON'T WANT TO LEAVE HOME WITH OUT IT! But ya know what? My big black cam case does NOT match my adorable pink top, my "bohemian" peasant blouse, OR my little black dress. Besides, I'm small, I need something less bulky. And most of all, I'M A GIRL DARN IT, AND I LIKE PRETTY STUFF! So, here's my question - does ANYONE out there make an attractive purse style camera case, big enough for an slr and a lense maybe, that doesn't look like a camera case? Maybe even in a pretty color, like pink or chocolate or mint? With all the ladies in photography now, surely there is a need for something like that? I've tried just using a large purse, but there is no real padding or protection in, nor places to store filters, battery, cards, etc. in easy reach. Any ideas? Thanks

by a purse, sew or glue some foam can holder things that keep your hands from getting cold, to the sides. Use a cd wallet for some filters. Or get a photo back pack.

I'm KINDA thinking about one of the new "designer" style diaper bags - big, structured, lots of pockets, and a good size bottle holder might hold a lense? plus, they are usually padded and water proof, and come with a changing pad which can provide some better cushioning. The nicer, preppy designer ones aren't cartooney or plasticy - they're made of suede, leather, etc, and look like lovely tote bags. I've heard of women using them for lap top bags too. Might go aead and get one and see how that goes.

Melissa, I have been thinking the same thing. Let me do a little more work on the one I'm making and see how it turns out. I'll let you know. Our styles sound similar so mine may work for you too.

I put mine in a large purse when it's just the camera and a lens. I think the diaper bag is a great idea unless you don't want to be associated with having a baby. I read in a forum where one guy does that and someone on the beach came up to him wanting to know if they could have a diaper for their kid LOL.

Lol! I KNEW I wasn't the only girl thinking that! Sharon, here's the kind of thing I was thinking of As you can see, it doesn't scream baby, and I personally love it. Liza, please do! Someone suggested I try to make my own as well once, but I don't sew, so the closest I'd get it spraypainging one, lol. I'm kinda looking for a handbag designer amongst some of the models I know - I'd be more than willing to pay for some one to sit down, take what I need and what I like, and turn it into something for me. Craig, brown and Black are neutrals - depending on the color of the brown, it doesn't matter 8- Seriously though, they put together camera vests and back packs becuase people saw a need and asked for them. There are a LOT more women in the field now than there used to be - I still know several togs who say, "Melissa, you're the only female photographer I know" - but obviously, there are a lot of them on here, and a lot who are well known - so maybe it's a segment of the market the camera companies and camera accessory makers should take into consideration.

Yep. I heard Jim Domke is working on a designer series of disposible diaper bags with outside pockets for film and pins. Best location bags I've ever used are diaper bags. They even have (hopefully) some insulation value so they keep your gear and film cooler in the summer. This isn't a new concept of course. I think it's been around since Lee Friedlander started shooting in the 1950's. (YIKES !!!)

My wife uses a diaper bag for her case. She wouldn't have it any other way. The body, powerwinder and 50mm lense fits perfectly in the center compartment, with her lenses and flash in the bottle straps. She won't even look at my Domke.

Purse style camera bag, I haven't seen it yet. But I have seen purse style laptop carrying case, at J&R in NYC downtown. I have seen some big enough to put a lot of stuff in there. When I feel like carrying my SLR with me to work, I will put it in my leather laptop shoulder bag. It provides good protection as long as you don't drop it. I did cut off a piece of foam padding and put it inside at the bottom in case I drop the bag. This link has some colorful carrying cases (shoulder or backpack) that may interest you: http://www.jr.com/JRSectionView.process?Ntt=carrying+case&Nty=1&Me=3001724&D=carrying+case&Ntx=mode+matchall&N=11724&Ntk=All_Record_Search&Ne=0

I use a soft sided 6 pack cooler They come in many colors they are insulated and they do not look like a camera bag and no one wants to steal your sodas or lunch. And they are waterproof. JUdy

You can also use a camera/lens pouch to protect your equipment and put them in a regular purse/bag. I used one with my regular backpack. http://www.tiffen.com/products.html?tablename=zing

Hi Judy; I hate to say this, but, apparently you don't work where I work. I've lost two lunchbags (including my lunches) in the last four months, LOL. Throw a used bottle or a wadded up diaper on top of your camera while it's in a diaper bag, and people will wonder. Might even get ya a call from DFS. Have fun and keep shooting,

well, my friend and I got bored at some odd hour of the night, so my dear fiancee babysat long enough for us to hit walmart and get the hyper out, lol. I found the cutest diaper bag - a oriental print the size of a larger purse with a phone case. I think it's adorable (and, yes, it matches the adorable shoes I bought too!)...but I haven't even taken the tags off it yet. Camera fits, but being cheap bag, it's not well insulated, nor does it have any separate pockets. Trying to decide if I can use the changing pad as a separater like in my camera case, or if I'm gonna take it back and try another...

Melissa, try to fold the changing pad length-wise to make it narrower and double thickness. Place your equipment in the bag and maybe bend the padding around your equipment until it fits in a way you like. Then make a trip back to Wal-Mart and check for the velcro by the yard that sticks in place. This way you can by a yard and cut it to fit so that you can attach your padding to the bag. Hey, while your there don't forget to look for an adorable outfit to go with the shoes and bag ;) That's the best no-sew suggestion I can think of right now. Good luck, let us know what you end up doing.
