thought I would post it up here to just in cas some one missed it! Thanks Debby! Naturaly the main focus is on the product. She would like various poses showing the diferent sides and teh back also some close up shots of the quality of the stitching and the for those little things you cant quite see with a full body shot. From what she tells that is the main focus, all about the clothing. the style of clothing is comparable to say gucci or prada. most of the clothing is darker, black, medium blue, light and darker grey, some white blouses and jackets. hopefully this helps! The owner has been showin me other fashion sites and what she has in mind for posing the model to show different aspects of the clothing. As I said any and all tips and tricks is most appreciated! take care everyone!

Hey everyone!! I am home today with sick kids but I think are much better now! Anyway I am finally taking pics of my sis-in-law this weekend. She is the one that is preggo and wants me to create some sort of time line for her. She is about 14 weeks right now and is really showing. I wanted to ask Laura about your maternity package that you offer. Do you try to do the same poses when they come back each time to show the difference of how their belly is growing? I am just trying to think of some different poses for her to do that we can do each time.
|

|
|||||||||||
Debby A. Tabb |
Tonya, test your backlight at it's lowest setting first-then move it up is nessisary. Good Morning Melissa, I am sorry the kids are sick. I know Laura has some of her maternity packages on her web site. you might check thos eout till she gets back-I know she is still trying to get that HUGH order she got out.

Laura E. OConnor |
HI, Melissa! So sorry that your kiddos are sick!! I hope everyone is better sooN! I haven't done one like that yet actually. Yes, for the full maternity package, I had planned to have her pick a pose from the first session and repeat it throughout the following sessions, in addition to other poses in the full-length sessions to really show the pregnancy's progression. I'd suggest a 3/4 or full side view to really get the definition of the belly.

I am sorry Leon, we have already had someone very un happy with these. With lighting you really do get what you pay for. if you email me I will send you, some emails on quality studio equiptment. next stop Briteck or Photogenic. you can try 3 lights and 2 reflectoers. if this person really wants to get quaility maybe they would help you get into the proper lighting to do a great job for them each and every time.

I just took a photo of my whole family over the weekend. There's 10 of us. And I didn't take into consideration the 8x10 cropping problem. I actually have a coupon for a free 16x20 and I already bought the frame so I have no options. That has to be the size. But I have next to no cropping room. The only thing I can think of is to put a border around it but the border would be so unproportional I'm afraid it wouldn't look good. Does anybody have any suggestions? Also, if you could tell me if the coloring looks off, that would be really helpful. I have no flexibility with lighting because all I've got is an external flash on my camera. I tweaked it a bit in PS and I thought this looked good but I don't really have a developed eye for that yet. Thanks!!

Hi Danielle, today is a busy day, but I will try to type out the how-to's when I get back in. There is a way to give you more background, don't despair. I have done this to more pictures than I care to admit. Debby, I had so many interuptions earlier when I was typing out a post for #17 that there were a bunch of responses I hadn't even seen that had come through, like the new thread for one. So, let the fun continue folks, #18 can you believe it?

Hello everyone - glad to see this thread still going! Debby - Sorry to hear you're not feeling well, hope you're better soon! Laura - Haven't seen you around for a while - you must be very busy. I keep checking your gallery on your website and your work is so good! Glad to see your business is going so well! I'm hoping to be there one day soon! :-) Leon - welcome to a fellow Canadian! where abouts are you? I had a newborn shoot last night with the couple that I did my first maternity shoot with. It went ok, don't know that I am really happy with what I took. I hvae to remember to slow down and not to rush. When you're doing newborn shoots, do you find that pics with clothing first works or without clothing? This was the second one I've done and both times I started out with the baby unclothed and each time the baby was very unhappy, crying, etc. Not sure if it's the shoot or just a coincidence!

Christine - I'm not terribly experienced but I've worked with a LOT of babies (I take newborn photos in the hospital actually). Generally, they hate being naked. I took my nephew's photo when he was 2 weeks old (it's in my gallery) and he was naked but he had a blanket over him so he was warm. Then I got more shots when he was asleep. I would suggest that if they are clothed, you tell the parents that, unless it's an unusually large baby, they wear premie clothes. Otherwise the clothes look ridiculous and way too big. Premie clothes fit a lot more babies than most people think and they usually look the best. If they don't have any, then I'd recommend a simple onesie. Nothing too complicated. And if only everybody in the hospital knew that, I wouldn't end up with so many stupid looking photos. :) I recently had somebody give me an outfit for a 3-6 month old... for their newborn! It's just cause most people look at baby clothes and think "there's no way anything could ever be that small" and so they buy big. Okay now I'm rambling. There's my 2 cents. :)

I am no expert, but on the newborn shots, I think the main thing is warmth. My first one was with a friend of mine and her baby. I cranked the heat up in my house to have it nice and toasty. we did diaper and naked shots, and some with her covered with a blankt. I think the main thing is to keep them warm and to do it when they are fed and sleepy. We had to take many breaks to hold her, sooth her, and bundle her up, she is a preemie and particulary cold natured, so we got really hot, especially working, but it was worth it, cause the pics turned out great. With kids of any age, you just have to follow their lead.

You're right with the heat, I thought it was warm enough but must not have been. Next time I'll make sure it's really warm. Thanks!

Yeah! I'm so excited this thread is still going! I just happen to look back at it and saw you were all still posting and it made my day! Well, my kids are feeling better, but now I have a sinus infection! Isn't that how it always works! LOL Christine, I have a 4 mo old and when I did her pictures, I started with clothed pictures, then got her naked, fed and changed her and cuddled her until she slept, then with a warm house took the naked pictures. I also tried a heating pad to warm up the spot where she'd be, then removed it right before I put her down and that helps keep them alseep when you put them down because sometimes the fabric or whatever they'll be on is a bit chilly. It takes patience because she'd wake up and I'd have to cuddle and put her back to sleep, but it's worth the work. I got some cute ones of her. Good luck!

I took some pics of my daughter inside & out. Of course the ones outside turned out the best! Here are a few of the indoor, original & PS fixed. I only have to softbox lights, I had one at 3 position eye level; the other was at 7 above their heads. I didn't have a back light, so I took a lamp from my son's room and adjusted it to hit the backdrop. haha Oh, and I couldn't get enough distance between them and me... so this was the best I could get.

Needed to check in real quick before the thread got a mile long. Did the Wrestling team shoot. Not as many kids as I thought. I learned though that my lights might not be powerful enough for group shots. I hope that is not the case. Do you think I can get enough throw out of two Alien Bee B800s. I'll post those in a while. I need to go to a fiends house to help him with some Anti Virus software and a firewall. I haven't even looked at the pics of the team yet so I'll let you know. By the way the cheer team only has two harleys to work with. My wife and I came up with some Ideas. Will let you know how it goes tomorrow. Chris

Debby - Hope you're feeling better soon! Brenda, you did good. The two of them together on the floor was a great shot. Looked a little blurry, but that is probably my monitor. In the mirror shot I would make them in focus in the mirror and out of focus in front. I bet they had fun!

I tried to do this with the normal studio lighting settins of f/22, iso 200, 1/200 but I wasn't getting nearly enough light. So this image was taken with the following settings: f/13, ISO 400, 1/100 AWB. The main was at 5 1 foot above tallest guy and pointed down at chest full power. Fill was at 7 chest height(I think) of tallest guy, full power. I think that maybe the fill was pointed inward instead of straight on. Both were bounced into white umbrellas. PS editing included some exposure and shadow work in RAW. Then auto color faded to 36%, then smart sharpen, played abit w/red in selective color as well as neutrals. Not much major tweaking but this is the look I'd like to get with the camera nad not woth PS. I'm off to bed, please crituque my work. Thank you

Great work Chris!! Posing is really nice!! I agree with you the edited version is alot better! I was also going to ask you what type of the Alien bees do you have? I have the AB 400 & AB 800. Where they powerful enough for you group shot?? Great work though!! Kristy
|
||||||||||
|
|||||||||||
Chris Van Antwerp |
Kristy, thank you. I have two Alien Bee B800 and one B400. I used the 800s for this shot. I normally like to shoot at 200iso 1/200 so that there is no movement in the shot, but had to go to 400 and 1/100 f/13 to get the lighting right for this shot. I was shooting with white umbrellas, so I think that may have cut down on the light. Next time I might try silver or no umbrellas at all. I will post the cheer pics tonight. The thing I'm worried about for them is that it will be outside and as of right now it looks like the sun will be fairly bright this afternoon. I need to figure out how to place them so that they are not squinting into the sun or if I face them away from the sun, there are no shadows on their faces. I'm not sure if there is power close enogh to use my strobes(don't have power pack yet) or if I can get close enough to make my 580EX effective as a fill. ANY hints? From anybody. Thank you, Chris
|
||||||||||
|
|||||||||||
Kristy L. Hargis |
Chris, Did you have them at full power? You know you sholdnt have to use your stobes outside. Unless there is alot of cloud coverage. I would hope for some coverage. As those clouds act like a huge soft box for the sun itself. I know mt infomation isnt much, but I thought I would throw it in. I have never done a group shot that big yet!! LOL!! Good luck & I can;t wait to see the pics!! Kristy

I think those chapters seem to cover it all. I know they are the things I think and wonder about! Do you have a chapter or section of one about releases & contracts? That may be helpful as well. Thanks for your comments on the mirror shots. I didn't know if you meant the ones of my daughter or the ones of the model in black, so I'll post them both. :) I really liked the outdoor pics better than my indoor. But I don't have a great lighting system and I definately don't have space to get things set up correctly. According your to clock theroy I would need about 8ft from background to me and I just couldn't get that yesterday. I already moved furniture to get where I was. haha If I can find the bottom of my storage room again I may have space there! Take care!

Kristy, yes I had them at full power. The only reason I would use a flash of strobe outside would be as a fill on the shadow side. If their backs are to the sun that means a shadow will be on their faces. Debby, I have gone back and looked at many years worth of this high schools wrestling team pictures, they NEVER smile for the team photo. As amatter of fact none of the kids smiled in the individual photos either. Something about that wrestling mentality. I even tried to make them smile, but they would have none of that. I understand what you are saying about being able to correct the photos but I would rather get it right and not have to rely on PS. Good news about the cheer team venue. It has changed to a place with a decnt background so I'll have something to work with. Wish me luck. Chris

Brenda, I love the pic of your daughter looking down at the mirror. Kristy, adorable pictures! Debby, Looks like you have it covered. I agree with Brenda that a contract, release form section would be helpful. What about a quick advertising section, different things to offer your clients ie collages, frames, etc. Chris, I agree. Boy athletes don't like to smile. Good luck on the cheerleading shoot.
