Hi Lorri!I Like It It Looks Worthy Of A Resubmit,You Can Reenter It From Your Gallery Or Upload It Again If You Think You Should Do Some Changes To It. Maybe The Chosen Category Was The Problem? As Gregory Said Just Resubmit!

The category I chose was Details and Macro as it is a very tiny little spider. I thought one had to "change" a photo to re-submit but according to what you say--that is not necessary.

This is a very good shot! You should re-submit but there are no guarantees.

With over 20,000 entries per month and only 5% getting finalist status, you can be sure many great shots don't make it the first time around. If you believe in it then try again. The rules state you shouldn't put more than one of the same pic in the contest for the same month. Not sure Detail and Macro is the best place. Try flowers... and if still nothing - then try animals... It's very pretty!

You may submit as is. No changes are required for resub. Great shot, excellent lighting and details.

I think its a great shot. I would resubmit it to the animal catagory and see how it goes there.

I didn't check out the comments but it's a nice shot and a good composition. I'm thinking they might not have commented on it because the middle part of the flower looks a little blown out and the outer edges are a little dark. Was the spider in there when you shot it? If so, it's weird because it almost looks as if it was put in. It's very nice though and I can understand why so many people commented on it and why you're so proud of it.

Maybe it's my computer screen though.

This species of crab spider is known for hiding in tight spaces. The pose and position of the spider looks all natural to me.

It's all in the mind of the beholder! I just won "Slide of the Year" for my camera club. The slide did not win the individual event in which it was entered - reflecting different judge[s]. So, enter it again. But, since it's unclear whether BP.com judges rotate, you just might get the same judge, who still doesn't think this image is a winner. As Dianne said, with 20,000 entries, geting to the finals and, then possibly winning, is a terrific accomplishment. When I was advised that my image was a finalist [2004,] it was Labor Day weekend. I and my family were blown away. Shocked totally is the expression to describe my reaction to the followup call advising I was a first place winner. Keep entering pictures and keep reading the comments that are constructive critiques. You won't get much from the overwhelming number of comments like - "Oooh! I love it!" But, a lot of folks do take the time to make suggestions. I recommend that you and others take these constructive comments seriously. I know I do!

Thank you all for the kind words and the ideas. I think I will resubmit--maybe next month. It is a macro shot of a very tiny spider which is real and was found in the morning glory just as you see it. If anyone has any suggestions on how to improve the photo, please let me know. I am open to suggestion. I will try resubmitting it in the animal category although I believe that Details and Macro was suitable. Betterphoto sure has some great supportive people--thanks again!

Lorri, The October Contest closes in a few days. Current entries in the three categories in which this shot could be entered: -Flowers...1861 -Details/Macro...1858 -Animals...2838 Your odds would be better in Flowers or in Details/Macro...(if you re-entered this month.) ...Food for thought.

This is a neat pic, Lorri! As Andrew pointed out the outer edges of the photo are very dark. If you have Photoshop or PSE try using the lasso tool and drawing around the flower just inside of the dark areas. Then go to Select>Feather and feather it about 25 pixels. Next do Select>Inverse. Now do Image

Disappointed? Don't be. Shoot for yourself, shoot what pleases you. If you try to shoot to please someone else, even the good folks who judge this contest, you may find yourself losing the sponaneity, the creativity and fun photography is all about. Enjoy it. Your eye is as good as anyone's here.

I totally agree with Doug. I've entered many photo's that I thought were at least "Finalist" quality. Nothing yet but I take the photo's for me and I enjoy sharing them. I've already learned from others on this site and appreciate every comment. Keep submitting those that you think will qualify. You have to love what you are doing for YOU. By the way - I love your photo.

Hi Lori, I just looked at your pic, and it really is awesome. As for the contest, with 20,000 photos, and most of them excellent, it may be a bit of "luck of the draw". I think your pic is very well done. As for the disappointment, I understand. I submitted photos for months on end. One weekend my partner and I where at a car show. I shot pic after pic. Ian asked me if he could borrow my camera. He took a cool pic and was so proud of it, that I sent it in for him. The next month I make finalist, and there is his one and only pic, what are the chances of that :). Keep shooting and doing what you love. Your spider is truly a once in a lifetime, so enjoy and be proud of your creativity. Betterphoto in my books is the best on the net and I have learned much from all the great people here. Resubmit for sure!!

Its a great photo, the comp is perfect. I just might clone the little bright spot as mentioned by another and resubmit. I had no clue you could resubmit images for contests. The first time I posted here about 2 years ago I became a finalist. After that anything I post doesnt get a lot of comments even though other places I post its well received and sometimes even won other online contests. Curious if people dont happen to see my photo because of the time frame I uploaded it because of not many users were online, and no one commented, is it still looked at by the judges? Ruth

This isn't an absolute, but it seems to me the more comments a person makes the more they will receive. This statement is not intended towards you, Ruth, but I know for a fact members like to see appreciation for feedback. Some photographers don't feel the need to thank those that have visited their images, and just from my casual observation I notice they don't receive many comments either. Then there are some who email their thanks. Members visiting a gallery and not seeing any thanks might assume the photog can't be bothered. Commenting is very time consuming. I'm sure there are many people who simply don't have the time to participate. Hey, some people comment and don't even look at the image they are commenting on. I now this for a fact. I am certain every photo entered into the contest is viewed by BP. Absolutely certain of this!
