Tamron Di Xr 28-75 f/2.8 lens I have been reading some possitive feedback on the "Tamron Di Xr 28-75 f2.8 lens" It sells for aboud $350/$400. Then I noticed a TAMRON (SP) AF XR DI (LD) 28-75MM F/2.8, that sells for about $200.00/$250.00 on eBay. My question to any one who know about these lenses is, what is the differance between the two? It seems that the SP/LD are not a part of the Tamron Di Xr 28-75 f2.8 lens. What does that mean? I am looking for a lens that is sharp and clear, because the kit lens that came w/my Canon 350D rebel doesn't cut the mustard, or it is me with poor eyesight, or something is wrong with my Camera! I just can't seem to produce a sharply focused photo, and I read that the Tameron Di Xr 28-75 f2.8 lens is pretty sharp and won't cost and arm and a leg! I would appreciate and comments about these two lenses, if they aren't the same. Mahalo Nui :-)

The full name of the lens is Tamron SP AF 28-75 f/2.8 XR Di LD Aspherical (IF). See http://www.tamron.com/lenses/prod/autofocus.php. It is often abbreviated by leaving off some of the descriptions. So far as I know Tamron has only made this model of 28-75 f/2.8. In Tamron's line of lenses: I would be very wary of a low-ball price.

oops, forgot (IF) = Internal Focusing (the lens front does not change length or rotate with focus)

Lani, They are the same lens, like Jon said. I bought this lens just last month and am very happy with it. I've done some testing of this lens on the same scene compared with Canon's more expensive and highly regarded 24-70 f/2.8 L lens (using a tripod, mirror-lockup, the same AF point), and I think it's sharpness compares very favorably, even at f/2.8. Contact me through my gallery if you want me to email you the full-size test photos. Also, check out Popular Photography's lens test at http://www.popphoto.com/article.php?section_id=2&article_id=711.
