Photographing beer bottles I used to collect beer bottles and over the years it has got to be too much. I then thought about photographing the bottles and just have some sort of "digital collection." I'm having problems with where to set the lights for a more dramatic effect. I'm also having a hard time with the reflection of the lights in the bottle (especially on the curves). I'm just using household lighting like: table lamps, ceiling lights, and a Craftsman garage light on a stand. I am wondering if anyone could help me with this. Any pointers will be appreciated. Thank you.

How about making them backlit? also the wall behind the bottles can have a glow due to the light.

Personally, I'd have more fun emptying the bottles than photographing them. :) You might consider taking them outside on a cloudy day.

Thanks for your suggestions everyone, I'll have to try them out soon. To Swapnali: If I do the backlighting, I will still need to light up the front to see the labels. Where would I place the light where there would be no reflection? To Bob: Believe me, I did have fun emptying them ;)

Then try to bottom lit them if possible putting on the big glass table etc. also add one more light from front ground level. U will need to adjust to avoid glares. If you still cant avoid glare, try moving that front light on little left and add one more at right. In this case a polariser might be useful to reduce glare. If you have many bottles then try shooting them partwise, arrange camera, then arrange some bottles take the photo, then keep the camera at same position and arrange sencond lot of bottles shoot ..and so on and then join in photoshop. you will have a very large panoramic view! If you have a table / surface which can reflect the bottles well, then try using that for base instead of glass table. then u might make a use light reflected from ceiling lights. What way ever u shoot, I would really like to see the result. do post it for us.
