Shooting Vegas I am planning a trip to Vegas and will be taking my Canon 10D...I would like some advice on what type of lens to carry with me to capture the true essence of Vegas. If I need to get a particular lense than I want to make sure I have time to get before my trip in 3 weeks! Thanks!

What lenses do you have now? Although zoom lenses are generally considered not quite as sharp as a prime, I'd want a lens similiar to the one that I purchased with my D70, a 18-70mm zoom. It gives me a nice wide angle that's comparable to my 28mm on a film camera as well as zoom equivalent to 105mm. On the Canon side of things the 17-40mm f/4.0 L IS should work fine for shooting the buildings and lights of Las Vegas.

Well, to me, nothing captures the extravagance of Vegas as a medium to superwide (18-24mm in film angle-of-view terms) lens. Useful for outdoors - buildings, architecture, vehicle interiors, and closeups on carnival rides - and indoors for capturing large rooms and groups of people. Try varying your perspective from above and below your subject for even more drama.
