Photo Shop and Kodak software I know this is not a photography question, but...I have 6 GB on my present hard drive. These two programs along with all the pictures I have takes up soooo much space. I want to either take both programs off and put on seperate external storage of some kind or would it be better to just replace my present hard drive with a larger one. Found an 80 GB for $89 (with $70 in rebates). Would that be my best bet????? But....I don't know how to get all the stuff from present drive to new drive.

Hi Lynn, Easiest option is to install the 80gig HDD as a second drive in your PC, you can then format it as required, dependinding on what version of Windows you are running (I'm assuming you are running windows?). Once it is installed you can copy your data (NOT program) files to the 80gig drive. This will free up space on your original drive for any future programs. It has the added bonus that if (or with Windows when)your computer crashes or you have to reinstall Windows your valuable data is safe on the second drive. There are other options but they are more involved. I hope this helps. Del

That's what I thought, but the guy at "best buy" acted like he thought I was nuts re: using the 80 GB as second drive. He just wanted me to have to bring it in for them to look at. I am running windows 98se. You said no programs just data files, does that mean that I couldn't put my Kodak Easy Share software on there cause that's where my pictures get uploaded to from my camera? Maybe without all the pictures, I'd have room to run the photo shop elements on main drive.

Hi Lynn, I don't use Kodak Easy Share, so I have just downloaded and installed it to have a look. If you open Kodak Easy Share and go to the tools menu > preferences then choose the transfer tab near the bottom it shows you the path where Kodak Easy Share downloads your photos - in my case it is C:\Documents and Settings\Derek\My Documents\My PicturesKodak If you click on browse you can choose a different location, here you would navigate to a folder of your chocie (create a new one) on the new second HDD and then it will download to this folder everytime. Solution # 2 and the best one is to right click on the My Documents icon on your Desktop and choose Properties then click on move and choose the new HDD you will get an option to transfer existing documents to this location, say yes and all your pictures and files will be transfered and every time you open My Documents you will go to the new HDD. I hope this helps. Post back if you have any problems as I am running XP so I am working from memory in 98SE. Also there is a good deal here on the HDD: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.php?EdpNo=1074952 Check it out. Bets of luck. Del

Del, You really went to a lot of trouble to help me with this problem. Thanks so very much!!!!First off I missed out on the hard drive; went out there at 8 pm cause they were supposed to be open til 9, but found sign on door closing at 7 for memorial day(Today was the last day of 2 day only sale for the price, but when I get one....I'll be ready. I right clicked on my documents on desktop, chose properties...it had one button "browse" and one button "find target" It said this is only short cut to target folder, changing target destination will not automatically move all files. I opened up my documents and right clicked on "My pictures" and found a choice "send to"...So once I get my new drive installed hopefully when I click on "send to" that drive will be listed as one of the options to send "My pictures" to which includes Kodak right???

No I haven't checked out e-bay. Used to go all the time to look at cameras, but haven't in a good while. How much did you pay for ram off e-bay. I've just been told that it's possible that all I need is more memory. come to think of it, lots of times when I'm in Photo Shop Elements, I get message saying "can't complete this task; not enough memory" Thanks for the suggestion about e-bay tho; may check them out again.
