Vertical vs Horizontal

I'm not sure of what your question is but, of course the the whole appearance changes when changing from vertical to horizontal format. I'm a firm believer that not only what a photo contains makes it a great image but also what it does NOT contain. Sometimes switching from vertical to horizontal (or the other way around) will greatly improve the image. Out of all the photography equipment you have, film is the cheapest. So, after composing, getting the meter set just right, etc., and you take that shot, switch to the other orientation and take another shot. Burn that film up!

Are saving your pictures in .jpg format and rotating them from horizontal to vertical with software? Some software will further compress the image with a loss of resolution. I've heard of "loss-less" rotation available with some software, or plug-ins, but I don't know any more than that. Otherwise, instead of turning the camera vertical, you might be better off just shooting everything in horizontal and cropping the sides to get a vertical orientation.
