I like this Debbie for it's composition and tonal quality. Would be interested to see it with a bit more contrast though. There is not a feeling of sunlight because the shadows are so soft. You might consider burning the shadows, especially under the bowl, on the table, the couch, and the salt/pepper shakers, etc. Then increase the overall brightness by about 10%. (soften highlights if this creates a problem)

Just wonderful B&W tones and the glossy reflections on the S&P and fruit are wonderful. Not sure what Dale is after here but I like it as shown. I think it has a richness and warmth to it that is hard to accomplish in B&W

Debbra - I didn't think of the storytelling aspect at first but you are right. Like the books in the background, the large picture window nearly the whole length of the family room and the sunglasses ready to go and how I like fruit. It did not come across well in color. Too much artificial light in the kitchen, making it too yellow to my taste, although I could certainly have worked on color balance if I had wanted to. Dale, I may come back and look at a bit more contrast but I kind of like it as is as well. I am not looking for drama here. It is just a quiet kind of scene about my house in the morning. Hopefully, you will be sitting around this table one day in the not too distant future. PS -- Anyone else is welcome too!

Rita -- Have you forgotten, or didn't I tell you that LAST MINUTE I decided that it was the wrong thing to do? Even Martin agreed. If I hadn't said anything, we'd be moved and I probably would have mourned this house we are currently in and plan to stay, for now, at least. Now, if I were to win the lottery and could afford a nearly $600,000 house, yes: I'd move in a heartbeat. But we never win anything so that is not a viable option. My little neighborhood is a lovely place to be and we are just "sprucing" this one up so that if something perfect presents itself we will be ready to sell.

Debbie, I really like the composition and scene it sets -- a comfortable, inviting dining area where you'd be really comfortable sitting down and enjoying a piece of fruit. for me, I think it is a little over-sharpened for that. And it isn't clear how the sunglasses fit into that setting. The seem a little discordant to me. I like your concept of a low drama mood so I'm not sure higher contrast/structure is necessary, but as Dale mentioned, there isn't a sense of "sunlight" in this image. It may just need a little brightening.

I noticed the storytelling or photojournal aspect of the photo at a glance. Love the books in the BG & perhaps a comfy chair there to curl up in for a good evening's read...all my books are still packed away in the garage Boo! I think all the different textures also make it interesting, from the fruit to the wood grain, the placematand furniture fading into the BG. I can understand that the sunglasses represent you by being placed in easy reach so you're ready to go at the drop of a hat. I, too, think it looks good as is, but could also be more dramatic with the contrast of darker shadows under the bowl and the one cast from the chair onto the table. Nicel done for the B&W challenge :)
