I used to shoot like crazy when I was little and burn through film with my family P&S. For my 21st birthday, I got a Pentax SLR and started learning some. But after I got my first digital SLR in October 2003 (right after the Digital Rebel came out -- my husband founda killer deal on one), I started really learning from my mistakes. A few years ago, I took a BP class on how to use the Rebel and learned a TON and gained a lot of confidence. A few years ago, a friend persuaded me to try shooting manual, and once I got the hang of it, I haven't looked back. About two years ago, I started a small side business shooting child and family portraits and the occasional stray event, and I adore it. Wish I could make a go of it full time, but the darned mortgage, don't you know.
I've been married 10 years (and was surprised with an 5D Mark II for our anniversary this year!), have a 2.5-year-old son who frequently ends up in front of the camera, as well as three cats who often do, too.
In my day job, I'm an editor in the features department of a newspaper.
