I live in the mountains of western North Carolina, and nature and local scenes are my favorite subject matter.

"When the flush of a new-born sun fell first on Eden's green and gold,
Our father Adam sat under the Tree and scratched with a stick in the mould;
And the first rude sketch that the world had seen was joy to his mighty heart,
Till the Devil whispered behind the leaves, "It's pretty, but is it Art?"

from Rudyard Kipling's "The Conundrum of the Workshops"

Bio

After being a 35mm enthusiast for over 20 years, I was highly skeptical of digital photography. However, as prices came down, and quality went up, I finally decided to buy a digital camera, a Canon Powershot G3, in August of 2003. I haven't shot a roll of film since. Digital has rekindled my passion for photography. I love being able to control the entire process from making the initial exposure to producing the final print. I can't see myself ever returning to film.

I now shoot with an Olympus E500 DSLR and a minimum of accessories. Like most photographers, I used to love to experiment with all the latest gadgets, but now I like to travel light and keep things simple. A tripod, a couple of filters, and some extra memory cards are all I need for most of my photography outings.

In addition to the scenic beauty of the mountains of western North Carolina, I also enjoy photographing friends and family. I usually like to do portraits outdoors, but sometimes by window light in an improvised studio in my garage.
