For the last two years, I've been specializing in wedding photography. It's been an amazing ride. It's opened up a whole new world for me. In both photography and my life. Being able to be part of the family dynamics of all of my couples is one of the biggest rewards of doing this. In my weddings and portraiture, I strive to capture realism. Realism in emotion. Realism in relationships. Realism in the love that ties souls together.
My Story:
A few years back, probably about 6, we bought a Sony point-n-shoot digital camera so that we could have more photos of our daughter growing up. After playing around with it for a little while…I started taking random photos of ‘things’. My extended family on my mother’s side is very ‘artsy-fartsy’. My Grandmother is a painter as is my mom. Her brothers are all musicians, painters, and sculptors. When they saw some of my photos they all kept saying that I had an ‘eye’ for photography. Initially, I thought they were all out of their minds. Eventually, I did a little research and comparing of my stuff to what I called ‘real’ photos, and I was able to see some compositional similarities. So, I started trying to learn the elements that make for good photography. I became very interested in it…almost obsessed. LOL. I’ve read tons of books. I have 4 different photography magazine subscriptions. All of which have allowed me to self-teach myself and continue to learn day by day. The one thing I’ve learned that re-enforces itself over and over is…’the more you learn, the more you find out you have to learn.’
I’ve completely fallen in love with photography. I constantly study light. Even when my camera is nowhere near me. I look at the way light falls on my surroundings as I’m driving my car, sitting on my front porch, walking my dog, well…really all the time.
I got my first SLR a little over two years ago and that really put things into high gear for me. I started my business in the fall of 2005 and am REALLY looking forward to the day when I can walk away from corporate USA for good.
Now my daughter has inherited that little Sony point-n-shoot and snaps away quite a bit. She’s just so cute!
