Frozen Lake at Sunset - Neuschwanstein

Uploaded: June 26, 2005

Description

One of the most famous castles, worldwide is Neuschwanstein in southern Bavaria. Disney used it as a model for his castle logo.

However in visits one should also look past just the castle, spectacular though it is. Landscapes abound. In midwinter it's surrounded by snow and temperatures drop lower than -30C regularly. The lakes freeze over. We'd just finished our tour and were greeted by the sun setting behind the hills and lighting up the clouds. The temperature was about -15, so a long session was out of the question. This is my favourite with the clouds illuminated by the setting sun as the mist drifted in across the frozen lake. Careful exposure and scanning meant I could retain some shadow detail as well as keep the clouds from burning out.
