Gorgeous bird capture, Lyn - even if you did have to "give" a little seed to encourage it in, so that you could then "take" it's photograph!! ;o)

As an Aussie I don't recognise this bird - sorry!! ;o) What is it?! :o) #1486055

LOVE the title...so true. Sometimes we have to work extra hard for the sweet stuff... Beautiful clarity and expression on your friend, Lyn! #1486066

Thanks all for your generous comments. This little fellow (not so little really) is a red-headed sapsucker (a North American wood pecker variety). He normally drills holes in trees to feed on sap and insects. A suet block feeder is an excellent source of an easy meal. Otherwise, it would be very difficult to get this close to one. He has become a fairly regular visitor to my balcony feeder :-). #1487349

CAREFUL! We had some of these kill our sugar maple trees back in NJ! They're beautiful, but BOY do they do a number on the trees! The feeder is a great alternative! #1487356
