Tripod and cable release used.

The original photo is part of my assigment this week for a pet photography course I am taking.

For the before shot I used white Seamless paper as the background, placed Cindy's toy on top of the window ledge asking Graham to tap the window to keep her attention focused.
I achieved the final result by cutting Cindy out from the white seamless paper
in Photoshop using the Quick Mask mode.
PSE 5 to 7 doesn't have quick mask, however these tools are all free of charge and can be installed from HERE.
Then I moved the cutout onto a new background I'd previously painted in Painter, added a picture tube of the soldier from Paint Shop lowering the opacity of the layer enough to blend in. After this I flattened,
resized, made a Gradiant
map
for the sepia effect.

PSE is here.I used layers, tons of layers, a basic layer tutorial is
HERE.

This is fantastic! Just the dog photo alone is awesome but the creativeness you put into it is outstanding. And thank you for sharing the details of this. What a class!! One question - how long did it take you? #8339509

Graham Robards January 29, 2010

Hi there Sherry, I didn't continue on after started working if I felt tired. it took over 8 hours of my spare time. I use cs4 myself so had to find an easier proghram where others could follow who had no understanding of layers. I'm glad you liked this tutorial. ~Pat #8339631
