Autumn Storm at Sandstone Falls.

Uploaded: November 02, 2009

Description

Manual, F/22, 1/8 sec, ISO 100, CMA metering with a daylight white balance. 24-105L @ 24mm, 2 stop graduated neutral density filter and Moose circular polarizer applied to the lens, tripod and shutter release.

Over the years I had been coming to Sandstone Falls I had never seen the mist rising off the water in the afternoon as I did on this day. Me and Hal walked out to the edge of the falls to set up as a series of fast moving storms blanketed the area. Hal pulled out a 3 stop GND filter where mine had fallen over the retaining wall at Babcock several days earlier. I had a 2 stop GND in the pocket of my coat which I held in front of the lens. I hoped that in addition to my polarizer it would be enough to catch the dramatic skies and break in the clouds that allowed selective rays of sunlight to illuminate the falls. I must have taken 500 shots in a 15 minute span! This is one of my favorites..what a great day to be able to witness such beauty!

Exif: F Number: 22, Exposure Bias Value: 0.00, ExposureTime: 1/8 seconds, Flash: did not fire, compulsory flash mode, ISO: 100, FocalLength: 24.00 mm, Model: Canon EOS 5D

An awesome image of this wonderful moment in time. The composition is perfect...those clouds are dramatic and quite scary...and the lighting is perfect. Thanks for including all the relevant background info; it always amazes me what you are able to capture with your camera. Excellent work as always, my friend. #8100408

Masterfully done from setup to presentation, Amanda. Thanks so much for providing the details of your beautiful capture. Your results are amazing. You harnessed all of the light from foreground to background perfectly, not allowing blownout portions or detail-less shadow to mar your masterpiece. #8100523

Wow is all I could say for about 5 minutes Amanda! This is so stunning! It must have been incredible to work the camera to it's best Amanda. I so love what you accomplish in camera with filters and natural lighting..which is the true essence of photography! Now I have the incentive to practice more! And I'm ordering GND filters right away! #8119753

An incredible image of these beautiful falls, Amanda! There is an easy way, and a hard way to do things, you certainly did this the hard way!
