She's mine ~ all mine

Uploaded: October 01, 2009

Description

Brown-headed male & female Cowbird pair displaying dominance whenever other Cowbirds of either gender approached within 10 feet of them. The male, with his wings spread wide, would quickly thrust his head to the ground several times while advancing towards other birds getting close to them ~ the female would quickly run around with beak thrust skyward. Fascinating display. Image captured on our acreage in South West British Columbia, Canada.

*As an aside ~ a resident Dark-eyed Junco raised one of this pair's young. It was noticeably unusual to see a fledgling being fed by a parent that was easily half the size of the fledgling.
