Kitchen Still Life
Uploaded: September 04, 2009 | Entered: January 03, 2016 07:52:47
I shot this in the kitchens of the castle at Chenonceau in France which are half submerged in the river Cher. The castle spans the river and is supported on piers that sit on its bed. The kitchens are located in the huge bases which form the first two piers. Boats with supplies would draw alongside the castle and be unloaded directly into the kitchen.
The lighting is not good here on the sunniest of days, it was rainy the day I visited, and as you can see, I was shooting into the light.

gorgeous Nikki... truly love the exposure and tones! #7916801Mitch Spence September 05, 2009
This is classically beautiful, Nikki. The simplicity of composition is so very appealing to me, with the lines of the window, wall, and table, the strong foreground element of the basket and foods, and the excellent use of light and shadow overall to define the forms. Whatever you had to do with it postprocessing was well worth it. #7917789Marisol Pastor September 05, 2009
Wonderful work Nikki. I agree with Mitch ... this has such a classic air about it ... not only because of the theme, but also the tones, contrast, light, textures ... A real beauty! #7917798John Connolly September 05, 2009
