I had just dropped 8 quarters into a parking meter, set for two hours, strolling the streets of the quaint antique-dealers' mecca of Lambertville, NJ. First stop: The Lambertville Station--an old converted railroad station on the river, alongside the canal, with al fresco dining on the patio.-

Oh No Michelle, poor you, not sure which is worst either but all together makes for a pretty disasterous outing. Hope the pride is mended and the wounds healing - how will you manage 3 weeks without the d50 lol! That said the shot is stunning, fantastic clarity and details. #7828548Douglas Pignet August 08, 2009
Wonderful capture Michelle, sorry to hear all the things that happened to you. #7828553Carolyn M. Fletcher August 08, 2009
Girl, I can sure relate. I'm always falling down on our rocky beach..sometimes you are down so fast you almost don't have time to get the camera out of the way, which makes for a worse fall, since you have no hands left to catch yourself. So far, I haven't broken anything, but it's just a matter of time. #7828555Cathy Barrows August 08, 2009
beautiful shot of the bfly...damn shame they can't fix cameras as fast as the body heals...lol #7828575Tiia Vissak August 08, 2009
great tones, details & dof! #7828594Yulianto Soeroso August 08, 2009

OH NO MICHELLE I feel for you. Iv been there. My brand new CANON 5D MARK II went face first in the sand at the beach during a sunrise shoot. The tripod fell over. :-( CRY CRY scream etc.....Colette M. Metcalf August 08, 2009

Another magnificent butterfly capture, Michelle! And I can sympathise - broke my ankle in China then sprained my ankle in Italy because I was more concerned with saving my camera gear then preventing an injury - both times with an audience!!! Bev #7828733Monnie Ryan August 08, 2009
It's a gorgeous photo, but what happened to you is awful! Glad the worst damage to you was pride (I'd have been absolutely mortified, as I was on several occasions when something similar happened to me...) #7828815Phillip R. Connolly August 08, 2009
Can't help thinking of "Moves like a butterfly and stings like a bee", Michelle!! oh dear!!...how embarrassing!! I really feel for you, and the damage to the 50D and all. Believe me though Michelle, there will come a day that you will see a little humour in this episode!! I know, it's not yet!! Great capture!!Phil #7828822

Certainly a day to remember!!! Well, the only good thing I can think off about this is that you still have lots of "bounce" in you ,Michelle,LOL!!! You description is very vivid & I bet you could have captured some great "pov" shots if your had time to shoot while you tumbled & bounced to the landing,LOL!!! Hope everything heals-especially your pride!!! It is always funny when it happenes to someone else, eh?Amazing colors, detail, clarity, focus, pov & beauty captured here!!! Lovely work indeed,Michelle!!! #7828936

Oh, Michelle! Glad you visited the butterflies first! My dreadful fall happily happened in a deserted parking lot. I was walking along looking at my monitor and stepped off the curb - oh, that hurt! Did save the camera... #7828941Courtenay Vanderbilt August 08, 2009
Oh, Michelle, my heart breaks for you! Thankfully you weren't terribly hurt and your best friend can be repaired! Your butterfly shot is incredible (as well as your scenes of the accident, btw)! Hope you are mending well. #7829045Mike Clime August 08, 2009
The main thing is that you are all right. Cameras can be replaced but you can't. Beautiful eye level macro! #7829134Ron McEwan August 08, 2009
LOL, LOL, and when you got home there was Ron winning about something. Sorry about the camera and all the injuries (pride)included. When we went on the three day trip couple of weeks ago, I was wanting to get a shot of a covered bridge, guess what, I went head first into the river, it was shallow enough that I could hold up the camera and save it. There were big rocks under the water that has a knee deposit on it.Now the photo is great a real beauty a big WOW as they say, nice work Michelle I expected nothing less from your ordeal. #7829215

Glad you`re ok Michelle!!!. #7829306Shelly A. Van Camp August 08, 2009
Wow, Michelle, I am glad you are ok...........I am so sorry about the fall and the camera.....we do crazy things to get pictures, huh? Take care! Love the images!! #7829527Stan J. Bendkowski August 08, 2009
Most important is that you are OK, Michelle! This is a beautiful crisp macro. #7829572Michael Umbreit August 08, 2009
Michelle - You take care of yourself! My last incident occurred in a marsh. I ended up knee deep in the muck and the only way to save the camera was to sit down. I was just lucky there was somebody there to help me get back up. I was a stinky mess but my camera was fine. The funny thing was that my wife barely commented on me coming home looking like I had been working in the sewer. She is used to me doing whatever it takes to get the shot. :-) - MikeBTW - Nice shot! #7830001

I was so confused when I saw your post on Deb's photo about missing your 50D I rushed to you Gallery to hear what happened. OMG Michelle I'm so glad you're OK. I keep telling myself I will risk no life or limb in my efforts to get the shot but sometimes....we just fall down with all that camera equipment in our hands. I'm so glad you're OK and like everyone says...the camera can be fixed and Canon is GREAT! You'll get it back before you know it.Stunning macro taken with gorgeous POV, light, clarity and colors. Best of all the chip was OK and the photos were saved. LOLOL Take care of yourself honey!! #7830080

Oh Michelle .... you poor girl .... what a horrible experience!! The main thing is that you are ok .... and your camera will be too!!! Then you can go back out there and get all those wonderful images!!!!! Look after yourself and thanks for sharing this beautiful butterfly shot when you have had such a rough day! #7830245Gina M. Savage August 08, 2009
One good thing to such a roten day was that you captured this beautiful shot! #7830423Brett Dolsen August 08, 2009
Wonderfull capture and clarity Michelle!!Hope your feeling a little better tonight. One day can definately be better than another and in this case you will live to take some more great shots!!Brett #7830515Nadya Johnson August 08, 2009
Oh dear! I hope you didn't hurt yourself. Last time I fell all I could think about was the camera. Which was fine - but although I thought I didn't hurt myself, I haven't been the same, since! You did get a gorgeous shot, earlier. And we do go to crazy lengths to do this, don't we??? #7830731Randy D. Dinkins August 08, 2009
Beautiful color coordination here. Sorry to hear about the camera, pants and pride (since it doesn't sound like you were too hurt otherwise :-(. #7830851Sue Marshall August 08, 2009
Yikes! Michelle you must of been mortified!Randy A. Baumhover August 08, 2009
Great story that we can all relate to in one way or another. I also like the image a lot. I love the color match between flora and fauna. RB #7831125Tommy E. Burgess August 08, 2009
Beautiful capture Michelle!! I couldn't even tell you how many times I've fallen over the years. To make you feel a little less embarresed I'll tell you my most humiliating fall story. I have a prosthetic left leg that doesn't always operate and lock the way it's supposed to, so I've turned falling into an artform where I twist around and immediately throw my hands in the air when I feel myself start to fall. I was shooting at a local trout stream (without a backup for a change) and was on a bank about 8 foot high bank. I slipped on an erroded area and my best friend tells me it was almost surreal as I reached down and proceded to calmly set the camera down at the top before cartwheeling down the bank into the freezing cold water. To make matters worse I was wearing shorts and my leg went flying into the river. I know there are a good 15 or so fisherman who will probably be telling that story forever. After the intial gasps all I could do was laugh. I wouldn't have minded a chance to see the whole ordeal from a less dizzying perspective. I'm good at saving cameras but hate having to take off my backpack off any time I want to change lenses and will balance 2-3 in my hands. I'm on my third 300mm lens in 2 years from bouncing them off the ground. Shelly is right though, there is always the temptation to get the best angles possible even if under any other circumstances it might seem like a really bad idea. Have a fantastic rest of the weekend and I hope you didn't get hurt too bad. :) Tommy #7831247Michael Khoury August 09, 2009
Very nice lighting in this picture Michelle...Judy A. Lawhon August 09, 2009

Well Michele,Kay Beausoleil August 10, 2009
Even without the story, this is a dramatic image, Michelle -- the colours are wild! It's great to read you're doing better than your camera, but injured dignity doesn't heal as fast.My fall was during a workshop, before sunrise on a stony beach, foolishly walking around with tripod legs extended. In the group was a trauma surgeon, so as I was falling, I imagined a speedy rescue for what was about to come. I yelled, and my knight in shining armour came crashing out of the woods, ran past me, and reported in a solicitous tone: "Kay, your camera's allright". Thanks bundles, Dr. John. #7834953

Oh what a beautiful capture, Michelle! And I had my bad experience as well. I had my Olympus E-500 and I was walking through a parking lot. I had a great zuiko lens on. A very heavy one and my shoulder strap broke. CRACK!!! I did not get beat up but I could feel the panic rising as I was staring down. I am so sorry you were hurt., Allen #7839622Joseph N. This is a real trophy Michelle. Great capture. I have only seen a few Monarchs this year and I haven't gotten any pictures of them.Karen Kessler August 15, 2009
