Description

A cousin to garter snakes, the red-striped ribbon snake is found in Central TX. They are semi-aquatic and are excellent swimmers, swimming with their bodies entirely submerged. They prefer shallow fresh water, like it's favorite prey, the cricket frog.

Found this fellow scooting thru the pond at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.

Another real beauty, Valarie! I never see these around, but not much water here aside from the outdoor faucets. The place I see a Texas Patchnose each and every year for the past 3 years now. They look like garter snakes too except a lot friskier, not good for pets. You have done this one RIGHT! #7751019
