Reborn

Description

In the Fall a brown caterpillar hitched a ride on my sheltie after a walk in the park. After recoginizing it as the larva of the Tiger Swallowtail butterfly, I took it home and placed it in an aquarium, where it quickly transformed into a cocoon. It overwintered in my garage, from September to May, and emerged as this exquisite creature on 5/24/09. It is still drying its wings in this shot; shortly afterward it flew away.
