Storm Over Mono II

Uploaded: May 26, 2009

There have been great clouds in the Mono Basin with some of the late storms we've been having this Spring. Now that the lake is warming, there's also a lot of algae growing, but the brine shrimp and alkali fly larvae aren't present in large enough numbers to keep up with it, so the water is a very interesting emerald color. I have some fascinating variations of this shot as I rotated a polarizer to reduce cloud reflections or increase cloud contrast and detail while not interfering with the reflection.

I'll be leading a workshop in this area in early June, then probably again in the Fall.
