Sharing the Brolly

Description

These were taken within minutes of each other. The reflections of St Pauls, London, in the pavement and the couple who were about to cross the millenium bridge which is right in front of St Pauls. I didn't like the composition so I turned the pavement shot upside down to make it a bit like an optical illusion.

Exif: F Number: 5.6, Exposure Bias Value: 0.00, ExposureTime: 1/40 seconds, Flash: did not fire., ISO: 100, White balance: Manual white balance, FocalLength: 31.00 mm, Model: NIKON D300

What a very different image Kate. I do like this. It is one of those images that invites far more than just a casual glance. Having worked in the London area for 35 years, but now living in the USA, of course I was intrigued by this unique composition of St Paul's. Thank goodness you explained how you did this as I was totally puzzled and would never had guessed this was a reflection of the cathedral on the pavement.
And, apart from that the couple and the umbrella sets the scene so well and took me back to my month in the UK in July when we had way too many of those wet, grey days.
Can't think why this hasn't got an EP at the very least. #8043436

Thanks Peter. Wish we could have some of those wet days now. Everything is so dry. Our local pond has not one inch of water in it.
Actually, yes I was surprised it didn't even get an EP. I might try it again in plain black and white. I got a full 10 out of 10 for it in a mono competition at Colchester Photographic Society. But I do find the judges on our local circuit have quite different ideas to the BP judges. It's good too because you actually get to hear what they think. #8044658

Good morning Kate. I was interested to see that you probably live somewhere in the Colchester area as I have just come off the phone from talking with my daughter who lives in Norwich 'just up the road from you!'
The whole EP thing is a mystery to me and that is not sour grapes because when I got back from our month in Cornwall this summer I submitted around twenty five images and twenty received 20 EPs. Since then I submitted about 10 more and had maybe just three EPs. I think we must remember that an EP only means that in their opinions they find them (to quote what they tell us) to be "interesting, eyecatching or beautiful". Of course, there is the problem; what I personally find to fit those criteria really doesn't seem to apply to so many utterly boring images. But if I say that, what I am really saying is 'I can't spend more than one second looking at yet another image of a bare pregnant belly or baby with a pink headband' but that is my problem, not the photographers! Equally, other folk seem not to be in the least interested in my images of ships on the River Fal (all EPs) but go gaga over an image of someone's dahlia. I guess it all comes down to that old saying 'One man's meat is another man's poison!'
Congratulations on your 10/10 in the club competition, I will be interested in seeing the mono version.
Have a great day; I am off now to ArtEast art exhibitions. Our city and two nearby ones host the ArtEast society and for two days individual artists of all media types either open their personal studios or combine with others to show their work at local bank lobbies, church halls or the like. My wife organises fifteen artists who use the hallways and rooms at her church.

Kate, This is very unique and special. I suggest that you upload it again and submit it. You have good dark room skills. #8721643

Thank you very much Phyllis for your comments. I might have another go at entering this but actually I do prefer the full b&w version of this now and possibly if I re-enter I need to make the feet look more realistic on the steps. Trouble is I tend to put the past behind me and kind of concentrate on new pics so unless I catch up on my current pics - I am only about a month behind on finishing my Croatia pictures - I can't see me relooking at that pic for some time. But I'm sure glad you liked it as I did too! #8722806
