It's history is interesting and rich.
I will post it below if you would
like to read more about it.
I found this one on a hike in the
Canadian Rockies
On The Edge Of A Forest!
It Was Special For Me And The

The mysterious stone figures known as inuksuit can be found throughout the circumpolar world. Inukshuk, the singular of inuksuit, means "in the likeness of a human" in the Inuit language. They are monuments made of unworked stones that are used by the Inuit for communication and survival. The traditional meaning of the inukshuk is "Someone was here" or "You are on the right path."The Inuit make inuksuit in different forms for a variety of purposes: as navigation or directional aids, to mark a place of respect or memorial for a beloved person, or to indicate migration routes or places where fish can be found. Other similar stone structures were objects of veneration, signifying places of power or the abode of spirits. Although most inuksuit appear singly, sometimes they are arranged in sequences spanning great distances or are grouped to mark a specific place. #1130157

You are very welcome for the story, Gang, and thank you, Brett, for the addition to it. :) !!!They sell Inukshuk figurines in Banff, in the gift shops. Each image has a little story attached on a card but many of them only tell a fraction of the meaning of the Inukshuk. They say that it marked a safe place to journey past...That someone had already been there and could vouch for it...but it does stand for much more!
I have seen all of your wonderful entries for tonight an now I am needing to get to bed. It' 2:45 am here where I live!!! VERY LATE!!!
Good night BP'ers.

Hi Ron, Jack and Teresa! Here are a few more examples of what they can look like:Jack this is how you say it:
In - like the word "in"
uk - like in the work "look"
shuk - like in the word "shook". (Like how a person gets shook up.)
In-uk-shuk.
Your lesson for today!
Thanks guys! -Laura #7881237

He! He! I did not know really anything about these Inukshuk until I saw Wm's gallery and you exclaimed Inukshuk. These are really cool. Who would have thought that these are not just balancing acts by people who have a lot of time on their hands. Great post Laura, next time I travel to Canada, I'll try to be more aware of them. Regards. Thanks for the post on my gallery. #9591438Sign up for an interactive online photography course to get critiques on your photos.
