Hi Ronald. I so like old machinery and FYI this is an old hay mower dating I wowuld guess from the 1930s or earlier. We had one very similar on our farm back in Cornwall. Originally it was horse drawn but once we bought our first tractor in the early fifties we removed the wooden shafts that the horse would be harnesed to and substituted a tractor hitch. I can't see enough of the mower in your image to confirm that this was converted or if this one was manufactured as a tractor mower. The bar with the 'teeth' on it would be lowered to a horizontal position when in use and this had a reciprocating blade in it just like in a barber's hair clippers.
Out of interest, where is your in-law's garden.
Thanks for sharing Ronald. #1240911

My father in law is an avid vintage tractor fan who lives in the middle of a field in a little village called Llanvaches out side the city of Newport. Now this could be a little confusing in what used to be the county of Monmouthshire then Gwent but now the county of Newport. #8404021
