Columbian Ground Squirrel, Canada
Uploaded: February 16, 2009
The Columbian ground squirrel can be found in Canada in eastern British Columbia and Western Alberta. In the United States, it can be found in eastern Oregon and Washington, northern Idaho and western Montana.
This friendly fellow was photographed in Mount Revelstoke National Park, British Columbia, Canada. We are on top of Mt. Revelstoke after an 18 mile drive up to a very beautiful Alpine setting. There are many trails, small lakes and meadows full of wildflowers in full bloom in August. A must see if you are in the area.
Have a Great Day

I don't think I have ever seen a photo of one of these little guys. Neat capture. Well composed. Q: Does he have a tail or is it just out of sight? #7171920Karen Slagle February 16, 2009

I don't think I've ever seen one of this, Denny!! If it weren't for the tail, he almost looks more like a gopher with a thicker shorter body!! Awesome capture! Love the splash of red in the fg! Great detail and color!! #7172285Mike Clime February 16, 2009

He Probably is a Garden NuisanceDenny E. Barnes February 16, 2009
Thanks for the wonderful comments! I think these guys probably have a pretty extensive underground system but very little shows above ground. They are covered with snow much of the year. #7173956Sign up for an interactive online photography course to get critiques on your photos.
