Maasai Herdboy

Uploaded: March 04, 2005

Description

aperture f5.6, shutter 1/400,
Our Maasai guides stopped to talk to this young herdboy who was out tending around 100 cattle all day in Loliondo Game Reserve, Northern Tanzania.
I was pleased to capture his stance which is typical of maasai

This is absolutely fantastic! He looks like he's posing for a sculture to become a greek statue! This decisive moment capture was wonderful! I also like that you captured him not looking at the camera but engaging in something with some one off camera. It directs all the attention to this wonderful young boy. Great job! #221269

Thanks Lori and KC

KC I have just looked at your gallery. Looks like you had a good trip to Europe and made a good start to achieve your ambition. I particularly love teracotta and the gulls from the back of the boat. All lovely shots

Thanks Kate! It's always a challenge as you know to find that one shot which catches peoples eye. I think you should put up other shots from this scene of the boy. I'm sure they are wonderful! #1151588

Thank you so much Don. I feel very flattered after having looked at your gallery. Though you only have four pictures in there in my view they are all prize winners. And many congratulations on your Desert Tree second place. I would absolutely love to go to Namibia to see all the awesome sandunes. #1288460

Hi Kate, I really love this spontaneous pose and the very pleasing colours and composition. I went to Kenya over ten years ago and saw Maasai boys like this, but I wasn't quite into photographing people at that time :o) I was focusing on the animals! #1497575

Kate Jackson June 21, 2005

Thanks Yuan. So glad you stopped by. It prompted me to go back to your gallery to find another gem! The animals are what most people go for but if we forget the wonderful African people I doubt there will be many animals left for us to enjoy. #1497990

Had I seen this, or any of your other shots of Africa in National Geographic, I wouldn't have considered any out of place. Here's hoping I get to experience Africa some day, as well! #1653602

Sorry David I seem to have missed your comment but thank you and I too hope you get to experience Africa.
Thank you Pu for visiting my gallery. Yes it is amazing the responsibility the Maasai kids have at a very young age.
Thanks again Mary! #1706192
