Cerro Blanco

kc please. Heavy post processing. Taken Wednesday while I filled up with gas for me and Bella's mountain adventure. This is the village of Gallina where I go to get my mail. I used my new ND filter to cover the cliffs and sky, while the sun-dappled field was left unfiltered. On some, that didn't work, because the field grasses then were blown out on them, but it worked on this one. Pretty well, anyway. the center fenced area is not in focus (which shows when viewed larger) and I don't know why. as I thought that was my focus area.

Just a lovely composition Aggie, love the placement of the tree and how the upper right is filled with soft billowy clouds.Al #927625

Aggie nice job. In this situation with a changing horizon line, I would have chosen that other solution we discussed. By using two separate exposures the sky on the lower right could have been darkened as well. I know lugging a tripod around is a pain in the &^$#* but its worth it! #5970867Aggie Villanueva May 24, 2008
Thankx so much Robert. My bad. You are so right about tripods and I'm just plain lazy about it. But in this case that low glow around the mesas is what I like about this pic. What bums me about this pic is the unfocused area on the land inside the far fenced area. It doesn't really show here, but when blown up to only a small 11X14 it is evident.
Doesn't ruin the shot, because it lends a softness to contrast the hard lines of the rough mesas right behind it, but still, I'd rather it had all been sharply focused. #5970897

You are gathering a beautiful body of work that works so well together. I think this is one of my favorite compositions that you have created, I can't see the out of focus fence on mine, partly my computer eyes and partly maybe the size but even a miniature print of this would be beautiful! #5971499Aggie Villanueva May 24, 2008
You're right, Molly. A 5X7 would only show the softness that I like about that area. I'm not sure if I can go as large as 8X10 without the softness becoming a flaw. Thankx for pointing that out. I'll do it. #5971604Joan E. Hoffman May 24, 2008
I find this very beautiful and striking. I also don't see the softness... but, I tend to look at the whole image, and miss the small imperfections... so does that make them imperfect if they are not seen... ~S~ the old tree falling in the forest question! Great work Aggie!! #5973429Nikki McDonald May 25, 2008
I love the cliffs and sky here, Aggie, and don't mind the "flaws" you pointed out at all. The discussion here is very interesting to me. #5974555Carolyn M. DAlessandro May 25, 2008
I LOVE THIS ..One of my favorites you have done..Beautiful!!! #5974797Aggie Villanueva May 25, 2008
Thankx Joan. I know that old bear! Kinda like the other eternal question: If a man speaks and there is no woman to hear him; is he still WRONG? lolThank you Nikki. These BP discussions have taught me a lot. And Robert has given me some great pointers on using my circular ND filer (it's not as simple or effective as the square sliding Cokin ND filter).
Thank you Carolyn and Deborah. I agree NM country is fabulous photographing and great for the soul. I've not been to Las Vegas on the other side of the mountains from me, but I've heard it's great and so are it's people. Hope you get to end up there, Deborah. #5975684

Aggie, love this shot. Great processing - it almost looks like it is cross processed.--Rene #5978241paola A. Jofre May 26, 2008
Aggie I truly love your processing :) There is something very comforting about them. I like the others do not see a blur. I see a beautiful composition with wonderful layering. It has a bit of a surreal feel to it, beautiful job !!! :) #5978539Susan Heath May 27, 2008
Spectacular work, Aggie. I love it - you just stopped to get gas and snapped this shot? You have a wonderful talent and your gallery is so very enjoyable. It is an honor, my friend. #5985628Sign up for an interactive online photography course to get critiques on your photos.
