Flora-Florida #6

Uploaded: May 05, 2008

Description

Field of Phlox. On Highway 40, on the road to Silver Springs, there was a field of wildflowers that had to be 200 meters wide and about just as deep. You gotta love the red star in the center of the petals. I assume this is phlox but I don't know what subspecies.

Stunning Floral!!!! #915635

Robert G. Stalnaker May 05, 2008

Thank you for visiting my gallery.

My series on “Flora-Florida” is being done for the pure joy of being out in nature and showing photos of the flora of the state of Florida. The photos in this series are not meant to compete with indoor shots and digitally altered shots, even if I enter them into the contest. Outside, the wind blows. Detail may not be as perfect as a rose petal shot indoors, nor will the lighting. The lens may not even be a macro, if I was out to shoot birds that day with my telephoto and stumbled upon some flora to shoot. If I am able to get some “great shots”, that is a bonus. The real purpose is to get me into the wild, where I enjoy shooting both flora and fauna, and showing others some flora from the state of Florida. I find that the simple natural beauty in the real natural world personally rewards me.

Hi Kristy! That's so funny. You responded almost the instant this went up. I actually just took down my other "Flora-Florida #6", a different angle on this same subject. I still can't decide which one I like best. #5888720

Beautiful capture. The colors are amazing.

I look forward to any pictures you post of the Silver River Park. I live near that area and frequent the park quite often.
It will be nice to see that area thru someone else's eyes.
I hope you were able to get out on the Silver River, the scenery is amazing and you get the added bonus of the Rhesus monkeys that live along the river. They are very interesting to watch and photograph. #5892682

Hi Jennifer. That day, I was at Ocala National Forest, Silver River SP, and Rainbow Springs SP, hunting for photo ops. I was hoping to see some rhesus monkeys but did not--I know they have been breeding not only in Marion County but around 4 other counties. Next time, I will take a canoe. That's probably the best way to see the sights.

You know what I'd like to do? You live closer to the thoroughbred horse farms in Ocala than I do. I don't know that area very well. I want to learn where to go to see the thoroughbred farms. Do youknow your way around there? I know there are fabulous photo shoots to be had there; I just don't know my way around. I need to find somebody who can draw up a route to take to see the best photo spots focused on the thoroughbred farms. #5893246

Robert - Beautiful colors and neat DOF! When I go out for a walk with my camera, I never know what I am going to end up capturing. I think that is part of the fun! - Mike #5906021
