This is just amazingly beautiful! It looks like it should grace the cover of OP magazine. Good luck with this beautiful image Darwin, it is surely a winner and just gorgeous! #14035

Darwin,
This is a nice variation on a very frequently photographed scene. Nice job with exposure and catching the stream of light through the "slot". Would be nice too if maybe you'd added a person for scale. I have yet to visit what I believe is one of the "have-to-shots" for photographers. Congrats on getting there. I hear it's an interesting trek to this spot. Nice work! #26260

Thanx Piper

I tried a few images with my little people in them - but they can't stand still for 30 seconds! It is amazing how many people are there at the same time and walk through your exposure - but don't show up in the final image. It is easy to get to this spot - park in the parking lot and you even get a ride in a 4x4 up to the edge of the canyon! #26263

This shot only happens once a year,
does it not? I think you entered this
shot in a contest at Boyed Hill Nature
Trail? This is a shot you can only
appreciate if you are there to
experience it. Nice capture though. #26269

Ah, yes. I see your point. I wonder if the light streaming down would've made a nice "spotlight" for a model though. A challenge to conquer next time. #26270

Richard
Someone told me that this light only happens for a few days each year(usually mid to end of April). Unfortunately, I can't remember who told me. I don't think that the image you saw was mine.

Piper
You can see how much the light moved in the 30 second exposure. I am not sure if the model would be properly illuminated.....maybe a weak flash fill would help? It might look cool to have the "ghosting" effect of model movement mixed with flash/ambient light. I guess I will have to leave the Great White North (Canada) and go there again in the spring to re-do this image!!! #26271

Sorry if your not the person that entered this shot in the Boyed Hill contest. This is a photo that is one of Natures most interesting subjects. Native American Indians use to worship this occurence as one of a spiritulist event. And if you were to put a subject in this photo it should be one of an American Indian in full regaila with the "Light Of Giving Life" directly overhead of the subject #26277

Hmmm...a bit of flash might do the trick, but I don't think this is how it's been done in the shots I've seen of this with a person in the light. If I come across it again, I'll let you know. My hunch is that the photog had a friend or model stand as still as possible on purpose when no one else was around--and probably had special access to the spot for an assignment or something. I could've sworn I'd read about this place being hard to get to. Maybe I'm confusing two different canyons. Anyhoo, nice shot. Was this a photo workshop or tour you took? #26306

Richard
Awesome idea. I know the area is considered sacred.

Piper
It was not a workshop or tour - only a roadtrip.... You sleep in the back of the truck, eat a lot of trail mix, etc. Not an excited method of travelling, but it sure is inexpensive. #26447
